A. BEAUMONT 1943 - 2016 It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear Jean, on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. Loving husband to Dolorès, he leaves to cherish his memory his children: Nicole (Donald), Suzanne and René (Christine); his grandchildren: Justin, François, Michel, Julien, Gabrielle, Alyana and Joannie; his brothers and sisters: Yvette (Art), Gilles (Debby), Louise (Allan), Aline (Fritz), and Alan; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Roger (Cécile), Gilbert (Janine) and Jocelyne (Raymond); along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He has left to join his son Jean-Paul, his parents Paul and Rolande, and his parents-in-law Lucien and Irène. Born on October 24, 1943, he was always proud to say that he was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia. At Manitoba Teachers' College, where he graduated in 1964, he devoted himself as much to his studies as to sports activities. He then held several positions, beginning as teacher and later Vice-Principal at Saint-Norbert, Principal at Melita School and at Institut collégial Lorette Collegiate, eventually becoming Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent of Seine River School Division. In order to devote more time to his family, Jean returned to a Principal position at Ecole Guyot, before returning to a senior position as Assistant Superintendent Fort Garry School Division. Jean capped his 38-year career in education as Superintendent of Fort Garry School Division, and retired in 2002. Jean then invested his energy, experience and know-how in the Association des municipalités bilingues du Manitoba (Manitoba Association of Bilingual Municipalities) as its Executive Director from 2002 to 2009. During those years, he also taught in the Masters' in Education program at the Université de Saint-Boniface. With education ever dear to his heart, he acted as trustee for the South-East region of the Division scolaire franco-manitobaine from 2010 to 2012. Jean always believed that his contribution to the world of education should exceed his job description. He strove to inspire young teachers and school administrators at Seine River School Division, Fort Garry School Division and Division scolaire franco-manitobaine (as Acting Principal at Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes and through the Manitoba School Improvement Program), and gladly served as mentor to those who shared his passion. He firmly believed in the importance of the school as a place of learning; he believed that the school's first responsibility was to prepare students for the future. He was passionate about education, but his family was always his priority. Jean spent a lot of time at the cottage with his children and his grandchildren, his brothers, sisters and his extended family. The Beaumont cottage was the center of the neighbourhood's social activities, and it was not at all unusual to see Jean there, sitting in the sun, chatting with a neighbour. Over the last 15 years, he also spent time with his new friends in the Dominican Republic, where Jean's welcome was just as warm as it was at the cottage. He had the ability to convince others of the importance of acting in the community's best interest, and of their ability to take action themselves. Our heartfelt thanks go to the staff at the Health Sciences Centre for their support and compassionate care. The funeral service will be held at Saint-Norbert Roman Catholic Church (70 Saint-Pierre St., Saint-Norbert, Manitoba). Eulogy will begin at 1:00 p.m., with mass at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at a later date at the Sainte-Geneviève Cemetery (Sainte-Geneviève, Manitoba). In lieu of flowers, your sympathy may be expressed by a donation to the Jean A. Beaumont Fund In Support of Francophone Youth in Manitoba at the Francofonds Foundation: 101-205 Provencher Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R2H 0G4, info@francofonds.org, (204) 237-5852. For some reason, Mr. Beaumont popped into my head this evening, so I took to the internet, only to discover he has passed. I am so truly sorry to hear about that. I so fondly look back on my basketball days in Melita. I did write to him years after I graduated to thank him for his commitment and dedication to the sport and athletes. My dad was also a teacher in Melita..... best to you all. - Posted by: Joan Codling (Student/Athlete ) on: Jun 22, 2019

Dolores and family I wish you all the strength in this time of loss and great sadness. John was a great educator, athlete, coach, administrator and most of all to me a wonderful friend. Jean was an incrediblle support to Bairdmore Elementary School during my years there as Principal, supporting our vision of excellence in education and particularly in technology. His warmth, sense of humour and ability to bring people together to benefit students made him a most memorable administrator.
