ROSE COUND Peacefully, on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, Rose passed away at St. Joseph's Residence at the age of 98 years. Rose was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bill. She will be dearly missed by her sister Bernice Pheifer; and by her nieces Gwen Howe, Janice (George) Fotheringham; her nephews Glen Pfeifer, Henly (Arlene) Pheifer, John (Tracy) Pheifer, Garen Pheifer, Bruce Martini, Ken (Shelley) Martini and their families. She will also be missed by her nieces Margaret Jones, Enid (Ken) Rymer of Wales, and Mary Jolly of Australia. She was also predeceased by her siblings Anton Martini, Peter Martini, Leona Caffelle, Casimir Martini, Helen Diffenbaugh, Agnes Martini; her nephews Brian Caffelle, Doug Howe; and her brother-in-law Henry Pheifer. Rose worked full time at the downtown Hudson's Bay store for over 35 years in the Lighting, Picture Framing and Babies' Wear departments where she made lifelong friends. She enjoyed her travels with Bill to visit his relatives in England and Wales. Rose loved her home on Strathcona with her flower beds and apple trees where she enjoyed watching the wrens in her yard. She loved photography, taking many great photos of family and flowers, creating many memories. Among her other talents were cooking, baking, and making jams. Often she donated these to her community. Her faith played an important role in her life. She was always a huge part of the lives of the Pheifer family, especially as she lived only four blocks away and often had the Pheifer children over to play. She had a gift for beautiful sewing and knitting making many smocked and velvet dresses and beautiful sweaters. She was a huge part of every family celebration, contributing to the dinner. She also loved to shop, purchasing gifts for others. Her generous spirit was a true gift. Our heartfelt appreciation to all the staff at St Joseph's Residence for the wonderful care they have provided Rose for the past 11 years. Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 256 Smith Street, with burial to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens at 4000 Portage Ave. www.seasonsfuneral.ca

My twin sister Bev and I were two of the Strathcona St.kids who were welcomed to Mrs.Cound's home with hugs and butter tarts. So many memories of happy times with one of the kindest people I have known. The summer our Dad helped build the Cound's garage he probably gained 20 pounds-a special treat every day! Sincere sympathy to you all on the loss of such a special family member. - Posted by: Barbara [Robertson] Martin (Strathcona St. neighbor and friend) on: Mar 20, 2016

I have precious memories of dear Aunty Rose when she and Uncle Bill visited Wales in 1952 when I was 15 years of age. I vowed then to visit her in Winnipeg and finally did, from Australia, when I was 61 years old. A kind, gracious lady and the last of our aunties. Sincere condolences to all the family. The memories and recipes we shared will be treasured. - Posted by: Mary Jolly (Niece) on: Mar 12, 2016
