JACK GLEN GOWENLOCK
Date of Passing: Mar 08, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJACK GLEN GOWENLOCK (JAKE) Peacefully, after a hard fought battle against cancer, Dad passed away on March 8, 2016, at the young age of 70. He will be lovingly and forever remembered by his wife of 45 years, Diane (nee Bjarnason), daughter Krista (Neil), son Corey, sister Gerry Burns and brother Gord (Gerry), sister-in-law Jona Nedo, brothers-in-law Richard Bjarnason (Sheila) and Herbert Bjarnason (Irma) and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his father David, and mother Lillian (nee Chalcroft). Dad was born and raised in Winnipeg and enjoyed the summers of his youth at the family cottage in Laclu. As a young adult in the 1960's, he sang, played guitar and bass in jam sessions at home and in the homes of his friends, and in many local bands such as The Stubbies Six and The Classics. He continued to play guitar daily, especially loudly early on weekend mornings his children recall, for as long as his health permitted. He also had a love for classic cars which he passed onto his son who currently works as an autobody technician. At the age of 18, Dad began a lifelong career in the then new field of computer technology. Summer vacations were often spent in cars, driving across Canada and the United States, camping and visiting family and friends. In the winters he was a devoted hockey dad, for years driving his son to countless hockey games and practices. Dad enjoyed cooking and baking and when he retired he became the self-proclaimed chef of the household. He made each recipe his own, making little and BIG changes. Always, and right up until the end, Dad had a keen sense of humour and a gift for making people laugh. In compliance with Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place and a "Rocking" celebration of his life will be held this summer at a date to be announced. The family would like to thank Dr. P. Czaykowski and staff at Cancer Care for their compassionate care of Dad. In lieu of flowers, we kindly request that donations be made to Siloam Mission. Jack was my life long friend Diane's husband. He was a guy with a lot of character and could make you laugh any time. We grew up in Gimli on Third Ave but they spent many weekends there, next door to us. We had a lot of parties and shared uncontrollable laughter. Good memories of those times!! May you rest in peace Jack. Shyrl Johnson (Slywka). - Posted by: Shyrl johnson () on: Mar 12, 2016
