CAROLE PATRICIA HUDEK (née YASKIW) On March 12, 2016, Carole Patricia Hudek (née Yaskiw) died in her 42 year, at home, following a struggle with cancer, which she resisted with stubborn determination to the end. She is deeply loved by her husband Mike, and her children, Sophia and Carter. Her parents, Joan and Marcel; Uncle Charlie; brother Shaun and his wife Stephanie and son Luka; mother and father-in-law, Irene and John; Mike's sisters, Jeanne, Katherine (Steven) and Sara (Kurt); and grandpa Edward Hudek; all share in their sorrow at her death, along with her extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by the many lives she touched and her many friends, neighbours and colleagues. Carole was passionate about her community, whether as a friend, neighbour, coach, lunch supervisor, church member or for many years as a part of the YM-YWCA family. She had a gift for connecting with people quickly and deeply, making lasting and meaningful connections with nearly everyone she met. This gift combined with her strong desire for, and sense of justice, to guide her daily efforts and relationships. She brought a sense of fun to everything she did. She had special love of spending time with family and friends at Riding Mountain National Park, the cottage at Victoria Beach and around the pool at home. Visitation for family members will be held on Tuesday, March 15 from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. Carole's family would welcome a visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral in thanksgiving for Carole's life will be held on Wednesday, March 16 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Road, followed by a reception. Interment will take place at the St. Vital Cemetery, near where Carole and Mike enjoyed playing Ultimate together. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CancerCare Manitoba (www.cancercare.mb.ca) or, if so desired, to her children's education (please contact Katherine at hudekresp@gmail.com). Special thanks to all the staff of CancerCare Manitoba, ward 6E at St. Boniface Hospital, and to her entire palliative care team for their support, kindness and help in making it possible to fulfill Carole's wish to die at home. • Carole's name came up recently when I was talking with my brother who moved not long ago to St. Vital with his family. With kids in the same school and similar activities, Carole asked Matt if he was related to me. I was impressed that she remembered me from our time at the EK Y in the late 80's, early 90's. Carole and Shaun were fixtures as lifeguards in the pool at the time. Carole was always smiling and laughing. I'm really sorry to hear she has passed and I hope strength can be Take care. - Posted by: Jessica Irvine (Former EK Y Leader buddy) on: Mar 20, 2016

  • I can still remember the first time I saw Carole. I was n the sixth grade her mother was my teacher and brought her and Shaun on a field trip with us. Later I had a chance to spend several years with her at the Y and later still she worked for my sons doctor. It's been a number of years since I last saw her. She was a special person and will be missed. - Posted by: Steve Chaytor (Former Aquaintence) on: Mar 16, 2016

  • I had the joy of knowing Carole as a close friend in High school. She was loyal and sincere. She had the talent to make people laugh with a silly sense of humor and always let other people shine as bright as possible sometimes by taking a step back to let that happen. Such a gift. Peace, Carole. - Posted by: Alison Elias (Former Aquaintence) on: Mar 16, 2016

  • Such sad news to hear. I knew Carol for years as a lifeguard at the EK Y in Winnipeg where she taught me swimming lessons at several levels right up to my NLS certification. We also shared a common connection to Camp Wasaga at Riding Mountain National Park, where I went with my family and would later work. I still remember how excited she was when I told her I was going to follow in her footsteps by working at the Camp after becoming a lifeguard. She was such a warm and kind person to know and occasionally work with at the pool, and although we hadn't been in touch in over 15 years, I still remember her fondly. I'm thankful to have known and learned from her. My condolences to her family. - Posted by: Josh (Former lifeguard student and coworker ) on: Mar 15, 2016
