ISABELLE POWELL (nee MURDOCH) Isabelle was born October 20, 1939 in Winnipeg to Arthur and Ina Murdoch. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, George, her sons, David (Lorraine), Brian (Cathy), Michael (Lori); her sister, Helen Murdoch; and sisters-in-law, Terry Placktis and Ann Murdoch, seven grandchildren, Scott, Simon, Tyler, Sarah, Connor, Carter and Evan. Her family will miss her dearly. Isabelle was predeceased by her sisters; Doreen Walton and Catherine Nichols; her brother, Donald Murdoch; and her brother-in law Fred Walton. Isabelle was a loving, yet firm, mother to her three sons. If you happen to know all three of them you will most likely suspect that she kept a secret super-mom cape somewhere in the house. Perhaps as a result of raising these three fine, hardworking sons, she was quick witted with an excellent sense of humour. Isabelle and George spent many long, lazy summer vacations at Victoria Beach where the family made lasting memories together. Isabelle was an excellent cook and loved to entertain in her home, treating her family and friends to an endless array of delicious fare. There was nothing like a holiday feast hosted by Isabelle and assisted by her sister, Helen. These are the happy memories that will sustain her family. Isabelle took enormous pride in her garden, growing both vegetables and flowers. She grew spectacular roses with that magical green thumb. Isabelle indulged her creative side with many intricate and beautiful needlepoint projects. She enjoyed life's simplest pleasures as well as the occasional, and well deserved, splendid indulgence. Isabelle was employed by the Winnipeg School Division as a secretary to the school councilors and retired from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate after 25 years. She was a member of Sons of Scotland and Highland Country Dance Association. She taught Sunday school at the First Presbyterian Church. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Oakview Place for their compassionate and professional care. A private memorial service will be held. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Our condolences to the family. I remember her coming each morning for the paper to get the crossword puzzle she so loved to do. Her needle point was absolutely wonderful of the Angles she loved to do. I enjoyed having her as our neighbour for years. She loved her family and would talk of them often. She enjoyed planting her flowers along the driveway each year. - Posted by: Doreen and George deDenus (neighbour) on: Mar 21, 2016

  • Isabelle was always Mrs. Powell to me. The family took me in during the early days of when my parents moved away. She was so caring and funny whenever I was over. No mercy on the anchovies on the pizza! "Pick them off." Good times all those wonderful years hanging out at the Powell house. Rest in peace Mrs. Powell! - Posted by: Steve Yaworsky (Friend of the family) on: Mar 20, 2016
