Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD CZARNECKI December 7, 1938 - March 13, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Czarnecki, a kind and gentle man with a very inquisitive mind. He was predeceased by his parents Walter and Minnie, his beloved son Mark, sisters Jeannie and Mary, brother-in-law John, and sisters-in-law Lorraine and Ruth. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Thelma, daughter Diana (Rob) and son Chris, and by his adored grandsons Luke and Liam, sister Christine (Edie), brothers Ted (Audrey) and John (Brenda), brothers-in-law Gerald and Paul, by his dear nieces and nephews and cousins in Canada and Poland whom he eagerly kept in contact with through Facebook, and by many dear friends. Ed was born on the family farm near Wishart, SK, attended Birch Creek School and graduated from Foam Lake High School. Shortly after graduation Ed and his best and lifelong friend Gerry Sawchuk ventured to Winnipeg and landed jobs as porters with the C.P.R. He went on to work for the Canadian Weather Service for four years and especially enjoyed his posts at Coral Harbor and Hall Beach. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a BSC in Agriculture and went on to work for Agriculture Canada for 28 years as a Wheat Breeder, also earning his Master in Agriculture from the University of Manitoba. He contributed to the development of many released varieties of wheat grown in Western Canada and was especially proud of a project he initiated in the mid 1970s, which led, with the collaboration of many colleagues, to a new classification of wheat - CWHWS. Ed embraced retirement by continuing to pursue many of his established interests in the study of plants, photography, music, art, history, ornithology, poetry, etc. He was proud to be a member of the Manitoba Regional Lily Association (President,), N.A.L.S., C.W.I.S., Charleswood Horticulture and Knights of Columbus. He was very proud to be co-chair and committee member of The Prairie Garden for many years. A celebration of life will be held at St. Ignatius Church, 255 Stafford Street on Tuesday, March 22 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. So sorry to hear of Ed's passing. My parents lived next door to Ed & Thelma for several years. We always enjoyed Ed's knowledge of the flowers that he grew in his yard and the ones in my parent's yard as well. On behalf of my parents, Gordon & Mary Ross and the rest of our family we send our heartfelt condolences. - Posted by: Tracy Iwanchuk (Family Friend) on: Mar 24, 2016

Our deepest sympathy to Thelma and family. Ed was a kind and gentle soul who was always eager to connect with family. My mother, Mildred, really appreciated his visits or calls. I will remember Ed as the family historian and will continue to think of him whenever I see a lily. David and Theresa Murray - Posted by: Theresa Murray (Cousin ) on: Mar 19, 2016
