Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNITA EMILIE WHITEHOUSE August 31, 1921 - March 11, 2016 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mom, Gram, Nana and friend, Nita Whitehouse. Nita passed on peacefully at the Grace Hospital, surrounded by her family. Nita lived a life full of countless people who loved her and will miss her dearly, and she has left a legacy of family who love in return. Nita was predeceased by her husband Donald and survived by her children, Richard (Grace), Jane (Richard), Wendy (Robert); her grandchildren, Trish (Mark), Steve (Helen), Debbie (David), Kevin (Robert), Laura (Casey), Jeffrey (Helena); her great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jake, Samuel, Chris, Laura, Will, Phoenix, Pierce, Ellie, Cassandra (Randall), Josh, Alex, Madeline, Lincoln; and dear friends including Marianne, Jenni, Phoebe, Frieda, Kathy, Rolande and many others. We would like to express our utmost gratitude to the staff at the Wellington, her home for the past 10 years, and to the staff at the Grace Hospital, who made her last days comfortable. Nita lived a vibrant and active life until just days before she went to her eternal home with God. Famed for her enduring (and endearing) stubbornness, she was ever puttering about. There was nothing she loved more than being with family and friends listening to their personal stories and updates. From dinner dates to phone conversations, watching a Blue Bomber game to happy hour, she was always laughing and teasing regardless of the aches and pains she fought through in later life. Nita had a deep and enduring pride in her family and every guest of hers could be confident both of her love and the prospect of being introduced to one of her many friends. A lover of reading and writing, Nita bantered with the best and indeed had many sayings, often unprintable, the family will cherish for a long time (many of the unprintable sayings, Nita would want known, were reserved for a special club she proudly described as "The Jerks"). It is so very, very hard to say goodbye, but Nita surely lives on in the many whom she has seen through life. How lucky are we to have loved someone who makes saying goodbye so hard. We are forever owing to her, and in so many ways, we are her. A memorial service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Charleswood United Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Winnipeg Foundation or a charity of your choice. It was my great pleasure to know Nita. As a grandson of David Smith, I would get to visit her periodically as the two of them were friends. Her wit and sense of humour never seemed to diminish. Visiting Nita was always a treat: great conversation and the wisdom that only comes from the type of rich, full life she lived. I will miss those conversations but never forget them. - Posted by: John-Paul Gravelines (family friend) on: Mar 20, 2016
