HELEN MARLENE WIESS (nee WYNNYK) November 27, 1936 - March 22, 2016 With profound sadness, Helen, our wife, mother and grandmother left us to rest peacefully in heaven. At the time of her passing she was surrounded by her family and friends. Her memory will live on with her devoted, loving husband of 60 years, Allan; sons Rick and Pete; daughter Sandra Houde; son-in-law Kim Houde; and granddaughters, Danielle, Kristine and Ami. Helen will be reunited with her parents Mary and Jacob Wynnyk and many friends who she dearly missed throughout the years. Helen met Allan in Selkirk at high school. The two were married on June 18, 1955 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year. Helen and Allan were inseparable from the time they met. The two of them built a loving home and family together which became the focus of their lives. Nothing could compare to the incredible family gatherings spent at their place with food she lovingly prepared and the love and warmth of family time. When not at home cooking, gardening, canning and baking, the two of them were off to the cabin where mom would usually catch the most and or the biggest fish. Helen was a very spiritual woman who was devoted to her Church. For over 60 years, she sung with her beautiful voice in the choir and volunteered in the kitchen. During this time, she must have made thousands of sandwiches and dainties to help those who needed comfort. She spent countless hours knitting slippers, hats and shawls for donation to bring a little joy to a life she didn't know. Mom loved to receive cards and letters in the mail. She kept each and every one of these precious memories, for to her they were treasurable reminders of those she cared about. Helen was always concerned about her family and friends. If you needed her for something, she would drop whatever she was doing to help out in any way she could. Her heart was soft, kind and gentle. Helen enjoyed company and everyone was welcome in her home. There was always coffee or tea being made and home-made treats to go with it. She was famous for her rhubarb cake among many other baked goods which she always had on hand. Beyond all else, Helen's life was devoted to her family and friends. She often said, her greatest joy in life was her husband and her children. Helen's life will be celebrated on Monday, March 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 106 Sawchuk Drive, Selkirk, Manitoba.
