DELIA ROSE FRIESS August 14, 1931 - March 26, 2016 When you look up into the night sky and see the brightest star, think of our mom, Delia (Dee) Friess. Mom's duties as a wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother have come to an end on this earthly plane. Mom now joins our Dad Leonard Friess (Pops), to watch over all of us from their heavenly home. We love our mom dearly and will miss her always. The family is very thankful Mom's last days were comfortable with little suffering. Mom was surrounded by her loving family the day Dad and St. Jude called out to her to join them. Mom was born on August 14, 1931 in Bear Lake, Alberta. She was the oldest child of Francois (Frank) and Joan Landry. Mom was later joined by 11 brothers and sisters who shared their two-room homestead in Bear Lake. Mom would later meet and fall in love with our dad in Grand Prairie, Alberta. They wed on July 27, 1949 in Edmonton, Alberta. Mom was the apple of Pop's eye, but we all knew "who was the boss" in their relationship. Our family relocated to Winnipeg in the early 1960s. Pop's younger brother Robert helped move the family and became a member of our immediate family from this point on. He became Mom's caregiver when our dad passed in 2007. For his many years of care and devotion to our mom the family will be forever grateful to him. Mom worked hard all of her life, a lot of times holding down two jobs. Her retirement was spent with Dad and Uncle Rob enjoying their summers on their island in Lake of the Woods. The most important thing in life to Mom was her family. She was always there when we needed her and she always will be. Mom was a collector whose hobbies included raising exotic birds, crocheting and collecting porcelain dolls. Mom and Dad enjoyed 58 years together before Dad's passing. She was predeceased by Dad, their baby daughter Valerie Lynn, her parents Frank and Joan Landry, brothers, Joe and Dale, sisters Anne, Teresa, Mary (Thayer) and Denise (Peterson), sister-in-law Mona Landry, and brothers-in-law, Roy Thayer, Larry Peterson, Don Dwernichuk, Larry Ziniuk and Harvey Gray. Mom leaves to celebrate her life and memories, her brother-in-law Robert, her children, Joan Wood (Glen), Peggy Miller (Marvin), John Friess (Caroline), Jim Friess (Sherry) and Ken Friess (Joan), her 18 grandchildren and her 16 great-grandchildren. Mom is also survived by her siblings Fred Landry, Gene Landry (Betty), Lorry Landry (Penny), Kathy Ziniuk, and Pat MacAusland (Dennis), sisters-in-law, Dorothy Gray and Marion Robinson (Tom), and Jim MacDonald as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. As per Mom's wishes, cremation has already taken place. The Friess family will host a celebration of Mom's life on Thursday, April 14, 2016, Chapel Lawn Cemetery, at 10:00 a.m. The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of 3 South of the Grace Hospital for all they did during Mom's final days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honour of Mom to the Shrine of St. Jude. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website.
