JAMES WILLIAM VANDENBERG December 6, 1961 - April 5, 2016 Peacefully, and unexpectedly, Jim passed away in his sleep on the evening of April 5. Jim leaves to mourn, his wife Karen, of 28 years, children Amanda (Michael), Daniel, and Katie. He is survived by his mother Catharina, sister Conny (Cec), sister Nancy (Doug) and brother Bill (Yvonne), as well as brothers-in- law, Robert (Sandy), John (Annette) and David, along with numerous nephews and nieces. Jim was predeceased by his father John VandenBerg in 2015. Jim was born on December 6, 1961 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. During his younger years, he often accompanied his father to work at Scott National many Sunday afternoons to check on the produce and soon began part time work with the company. Upon completion of high school Jim entered full-time work with Scott National (currently Sysco Foods), where he was employed until the day of his passing. Jim was a loving husband and father who put his family first. He showed this love selflessly in many ways, always willing to do something for his wife and family before himself. Jim and Karen raised their children with a faith in God. He was an active member of Covenant Christian Reformed Church where he especially appreciated the fellowship of his small group community. Jim enjoyed barbequing, baking, reading and taking long bike rides. Camping with the family was a highlight of the summer. Extended family gatherings were always enjoyed, especially with a competitive game of bocce ball. Jim loved life and was well loved, his presence will be deeply missed, but we rest in the comfort of knowing he is with his Father in Heaven. Funeral service Wednesday, April 13 at 2:00 p.m. at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Avenue. "I do not know how long twill be, nor what the future holds for me, but this I know: if Jesus leads me, I shall get home someday." In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's memory to The St. Amant Foundation - Autism Programs. www.stamant.ca

Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • I remember the many Sunday afternoons hanging out at your parents or my house when we were kids. Many memories that I continue to cherish today. My condolences to the family at this time. - Posted by: Don (Friend) on: Apr 14, 2016

  • Jim was one of the first Sysco employees (if not the first) I met upon starting my job with Eclipse. He taught me most of what I know about produce, and was always setting the Eclipse crew up for success when receiving ("setting us up for success" were his own words, he would take the time to actually organize product so that it was easier for us to break it down, and even lay out pallets for the next thing while we worked on something else). He didn't receive very often in recent time, but it was always a treat, as we knew that trailer would be done fast, even if it was a terrible load. He was a good guy with a sense of humor to match, and I will genuinely miss him. RIP, brother. - Posted by: Logan Edwards (coworker) on: Apr 13, 2016
