MARGARET (PEARL) LANGER May 21, 1929 - March 28, 2016 With love and sadness the family of Pearl Langer announces her peaceful passing at home. Pearl will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Cheryl Langer (Dr. Gord McTavish); son Brian Langer (Terri Dyck); and grandchildren, Chelsea (Curtis), Alan (Dana), Reid, Aimee and Hunter; and niece Kathy Pratt (Reg). Pearl was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Charlie Langer; her parents Annie and Arthur Hargreaves; Charlie's parents Carl and Anna Langer; her brother Bill (June) Hargreaves and sister-in-law Del (Louis) Schoepp. Pearl was born and raised in St. James where she attended St. James Collegiate and graduated from the School of Nursing in 1950 and married Charlie in 1953. She enjoyed her career in public health nursing until retiring early to raise her family. Mom and Dad moved into their starter home at "501" and remained there until it was time to move into The Parkway Retirement Community, almost four years ago. Wherever they lived, or travelled, Mom always enjoyed the people she met. Pearl was active in her community through volunteering, with Brownies, Explorers, Siloam Mission and sponsoring children through World Vision. She was on the board for Middlechurch from 1981-1992, and received a special volunteer recognition award for her work. In her younger years, she loved to curl, swim and do Tai chi and laterally she attended the Wellness Centre and enjoyed the group exercises at her home as well. She was an active member at John Black United Church for many years and later on, St. Andrews River Heights United. As the kids grew up there were many fun camping outings, trips to Clear Lake, Gull Lake, Disney World and Hawaii, with family and friends. Pearl and Charlie loved to travel and enjoyed many adventures all over the world. Cruising was a favourite and Mom's last trip was a Caribbean Cruise with some of her family members just last year. Pearl had a very special place in her heart, for her grandchildren. She was always delighted to see them, watch their sporting events, host sleep overs when they were younger and enjoyed "happy hours" with them as young adults, always delighting in their stories. Grandma never judged, only listened and was often heard to say, "You'll figure it out". With deep appreciation, the family thanks Dr. Carl Duerksen, for his long term care, Riverview Health Centre 3 West, the Palliative Care team, the wonderful ladies from Ioana's Home Care Services and the Reverend Karen Lumley. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Interment and reception to follow. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation, Siloam Mission or a charity of your choice. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website.
