ARTHUR WILLIAM MOORE
Date of Passing: Apr 02, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR WILLIAM MOORE It is with sadness that the family of Arthur William Moore announce his passing on April 2, 2016. Dad lived to the age of 84. He was predeceased by his father Percy Claxon Moore and mother Evangeline Moore (Blohm), as well as many aunts and uncles. He is survived by his loving wife Olive Moore and their three children, Bruce Percy Moore, Robert Arthur Moore (Yvonne) and Donna May Sagness (Darren); his sister Helen Castle; sister-in-law Margaret Barbour (Bud); as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and cousins; both near and far. Dad was born October 9, 1931 in the Norquay district of Saskatchewan. When he was a young man, he left home in search of work, making his way to Benito, Manitoba. It was there that he met his future wife, Olive Murray. At that time, Dad was learning the trade of meat butcher while Mom took her first nursing job. The family joked, over the years, that she could provide medical attention if Dad had a bad day at work! He took great pride and skill in his work and only needed a few stitches. From there, the couple eventually moved to Winnipeg and got married on December 24, 1955. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2015. Dad had a few interests outside of work. Fishing and camping were at the top of his list. He spent many nights and weekends fishing with family and friends over the years and likely had more "you should have seen the one that got away" stories than most. He didn't mind being teased about the lack of catch, after all it was just good fun hanging out with the boys. As the family grew up, he supported his kids the best he could. He had a heart of gold and gave of himself to both family and strangers. His winning smile and sarcastic grin made him an instant friend. Dad had a strong and tireless work ethic spending many years working for Loblaws and Econo-Mart stores during his long career. He retired in 1994 and continued to share his favourite stories up until recent months. Dad's last few years were challenging with respect to his health. He died peacefully surrounded by family, without pain and on his own terms. In recent years Dad spent time at Deer Lodge Centre, Oakview Place, and more recently at Golden West Centennial Lodge. The family is eternally grateful to those who touched his life making "King Arthur" smile every day. Dad was never one to draw attention to himself, and at his request, cremation has taken place and a private family burial to follow. The family will hold a come and go celebration of his life, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at 11 Dickens Drive, Winnipeg, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army (Golden West Centennial Lodge) or the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Dad's memory. We know you are now at peace Dad and are looking for the ones "that got away" at the great fishing hole in the sky. Until we meet again... xox.
