ALVIN LORNE TRAPP It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Alvin Lorne Trapp, aged 86, at River East Personal Care Home, on April 8, 2016. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Erna, children; Carol (Bob), Melvin (Caroline), Dale (Marianne), Jerry (Susan), Sharon (Kurtis), Darren (Laura), grandchildren; Curtis, Ryan (Tracy), Christine (Don), Kevin (Catherine), Jonathan, Derek, Kelsey, Hayley and great-grandchildren; Kyden, Camryn, Koltyn, Alayna, Mackenzie, Kaylynn and Eva. Alvin is also survived by his sisters, Eleanor (Stan), Lyla (Donald), his brothers-in-law, Blaine, Ed (Louise), Ernest (Josie), Bob, Walter (Bev), sister-in-law Joy (Ron) and many nieces and nephews, He was predeceased by his parents William and Lydia, his sisters Irene, Joyce, Phyllis, his sister-in-law Ruth and brothers-in-law Bill and Dennis. Alvin was born on February 28, 1930 in Stoughton, Saskatchewan. His early years were spent on the family's various farms, first in Lampman, Saskatchewan and then in St. Peter's and Brokenhead, Manitoba. When the family moved from the farm to Beausejour, Alvin worked in his parent's restaurant, the Clariss Tearoom. The next family move was to Winnipeg, where Alvin found work as a cook at Salisbury House. He loved to cook and prepared many dinners for his family. Alvin then changed career paths and worked for 42 years at Burns Foods until his retirement. Being the oldest in the family, with five sisters, he took very good care of his sisters, especially when they lost their mother at a very young age. In 1967, Alvin married Erna and they shared many happy years together until his health failed. After selling their home, they moved to Devonshire House. When his health failed further, he lived first at Tuxedo Villa and then River East Personal Care Home. The staff there said he always had a smile for them. Alvin had a passion for gardening and was happiest outdoors tending to his flower beds. Along with activities of bowling, traveling and volunteering in the community, he cherished time spent with friends and family. He was a long time active member of Grace Lutheran Church. Alvin was loved by all who knew him and will be remembered for his kind and gentle manner. He always had a bright, warm smile for all. The family would like to thank the staff at River East Personal Care Home for their excellent care over the last four years. Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberley Avenue, Winnipeg.
