ANNE DONNA SHEWCHUK
Date of Passing: Mar 30, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNE DONNA SHEWCHUK (nee CHOMIAK) 1946 - 2016 "Good-bye my family and friends - I will miss you dearly!" Peacefully, with her family by her side, after a courageous six year battle with cancer, Anne left us to be with God on March 30, 2016. Anne leaves behind her loving husband of 49 years, Paul; daughter Angela (Kevin) Kendel and her two precious grandchildren, Jessica and Daniella. She also leaves behind her sister Betty (Gerald) Sidloski; sisters-in-law, Nettie Lubinski, Ann Slobodian and Jean Shewchuk; brother-in-law Mike Shewchuk; as well as many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and very dear friends. Left mourning her passing is her best friend Jean (Dave) Beauchamp, of 45 years. Jean was with her through thick and thin; and a great source of love and support for Anne for many years. Anne was predeceased by her parents, John and Elsie; brother Mike and two infant brothers. Anne grew up in Chatfield, Manitoba and attended St. Mary's School in Winnipeg. She married Paul in 1966 and they settled in Winnipeg. Soon after, both Anne and Paul began working for the Winnipeg School Division, where they remained until their retirement. Anne was most proud of being able to open a new school, Stanley Knowles, where she enjoyed many years. Anne lived life to the fullest. She was known for her winning smile and quick laughter. Always full of pranks, she often inspired her coworkers to join into her latest jokes. She loved to celebrate special events and holidays, and was often the instigator behind the latest round of Halloween costumes and jokes. Anne also loved to travel. For many years, Anne and Paul travelled most of the U.S. and Canada in their favourite home away from home, their motorhome; often with friends or family along to share their latest adventure. They also enjoyed their trips to Cuba and the Caribbean. Anne was known for helping people. Whether it was making perogies, visiting with sick friends, or helping coordinate the latest shower, social or party. Anne loved to help out and could always be counted on when someone was in need or just because she happened to be in the area and thought of you. She faithfully attended her daughters' and then her granddaughters' sporting events and concerts. Grampa and Grandma were well known by all! After retirement, Anne enjoyed her special lunches, golf games, casino trips and time with the "girls". Anne lived life to the fullest, with dignity and grace. She made every effort to minimize the impact her illness had on her family and maintain her every day zest for life. She fought a long and heroic battle, often hiding how ill she really was. Anne and her family would like to offer their sincere thanks to all her family, dear friends, and staff from Stanley Knowles School for their compassion and loving support particularly over the last few months. We would also like to thank Dr. Lipinski and the doctors and staff at Victoria Hospital, Oncology Department; Dr. St. Goddard and all the wonderful, compassionate team at St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit. Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB. Interment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anne's memory to the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenedenmemorial.ca Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 204-338-7111

I remember having Christmas eve with Auntie Anne and Uncle Paul. It was meatless and it was the first time celebrating Ukrainian Christmas. There was lots of food and family. We will miss her a lot sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Lara Shewchuk (Family) on: Apr 13, 2016

We will miss Anne very much! All of our boys associate Anne with lots of food (of course!), and especially pirogies. We loved the pirogy-making lessons, and will diligently try to keep honing those skills. Anne, you were such an amazing example of being strong and positive in the face of your illness, and just such a relaxing and fun person to be around. We are privileged to have known you. - Posted by: Carol Taves (friend) on: Apr 13, 2016
