CATHERINE MABEL MCASKILL (nee DONALD) Passed away on April 13, 2016 at the Seven Regions Health Centre, Gladstone, at the age of 90 years. She was predeceased by granddaughter Laura; husband Bob; brothers Frank and Bill Donald, and brother-in-law Les Greves. She is survived by her children Donald (Lynne), Maureen (Jeff) Samson, Linda, Cameron, Hazel (Don) Tufford, and Bill (Ellen); grandchildren Karen McAskill (Geoffrey Houghton) and Colleen McAskill, Catherine and Jennifer Samson (Martin Keane), Dylan Tufford (Deanne Tufford), Robert and Cara McAskill (Roger Picton); great-grandchildren Alistair Houghton and Abigail Tufford; sisters Jean Greves of Brandon, Dorothy Blair of Winnipeg and Shirley Marks of Summerland; sister-in-law Lena Donald of Brandon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Catherine was born on June 1, 1925 in Morris, Manitoba. She attended school in Morris until Grade 11. She lived with her sister Jean Greves while attending Daniel MacIntyre School in Winnipeg for Grade 12. She graduated from Misericordia School of Nursing in 1946. Catherine worked in Winnipeg for a short time and then moved to Gladstone, MB in 1947, where she began a long career in the Gladstone Hospital. Catherine met Bob in 1947 while he was in the hospital visiting his sister-in-law Vera McAskill and his new niece Lois. Catherine and Bob married in 1948. Catherine worked at Gladstone Hospital for more than 20 years and particularly enjoying Obstetrics assisting in the birth of dozens of babies. She later became the first Director of Nursing for Third Crossing Manor in Gladstone. She was active in the Legion Ladies' Auxiliary. Catherine and Bob were instrumental in establishing Riverside Residence in Gladstone where Linda still resides. Catherine and Bob volunteered their time to the Gladstone Museum for many years. They also helped create #110 Legion Place in Gladstone. Catherine loved her family, her community, gardening and flowers. She will be missed by her family and friends. Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gladstone United Church with Lynne Sanderson officiating. Interment will follow at the Gladstone Cemetery.
