MARJORIE NELL ROMANIK After 95 years of a life well lived, Marjorie Nell Romanik went Home to her Lord April 16, 2016. She was lovingly welcomed by Julie and Alex Brechka on March 21, 1921 in a house on Cherry Street in Boissevain, MB. At age 16, she lost her dear dad. Julie, Marjorie and her brother Lewis moved to Brandon, where she would meet our father, John, marry, and spend the next 65 years together raising and loving Judy (Terry Grant), +Wayne, and Debbie (Rene Dusanek). Growing up in our homes on 24th and 18th Streets we learned many lessons. Our living room and dining table were welcome places for family members, friends, and our parish priest, who loved Mom's cooking so much, he would invite himself over at least once a month. Childhood friends have shared stories of their visits to our home and the anticipation of being invited to stay for dinner, or finding exciting leftovers in our fridge! If a relative or friend had nowhere to go for a holiday meal, there was always a place for them at our table. Faith was central to Mom's life. A devoted member of St. Mary's in Brandon, she served as church organist, choir member, and president of the U.C.W.L. In Winnipeg, she worshipped at St. Basil's and St. Paul the Apostle Churches. Playing Bingo was Mom's passion - from St. Mary's to St. Paul the Apostle, Sturgeon Creek Community Centre, A.N.A.F. and #4 Legion (the ones we know of :). She had to be there early to get "her cards", and claim her place at her regular table. Mom the Bingo player, and Dad, one of the most in-demand callers in St. James, had so much fun throughout their lives together. Mom truly loved music. She treasured her Heintzman piano, a gift from her father that moved with her throughout her life. She played at the Palladium with some of Dad's many dance bands, church hall concerts, weddings and funerals, and always sang harmony on every song she knew. As we have learned by the many phone calls and visits, Mom will be missed by many friends met through Labatt retirees, Brewer's Distributors, Legion and A.N.A.F., St. Basil's, Knights of Columbus, and Sturgeon Retirement Residence. She was grateful to those who included her and gave her rides, and appreciated their thoughtfulness. Marjorie was grateful for the gift of her grandchildren, +Kevin John and Joel (Jennifer) Grant, Leah and Tyler Dusanek, and most recently, her great-grandson, Kevin Grant. Leah was her partner in crime for trips to the casino, lottery tickets, shopping, and waffle lunches, and Ty was one of her favourite cribbage foes. Mom delighted in Joel and Jen's visits with baby Kevin. We are grateful to the staff of Sturgeon One Retirement residence; particularly Kathleen and Michael, Dr. Macek and Dr. Crawford, and the kind and compassionate staff of Grace Hospice. In Mom's memory, please consider a donation specifying the Grace Hospice, care of the Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7, or Ronald McDonald House, 566 Bannatyne Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3A 0G7 in support of their important mission. Funeral has taken place. Interment to follow at a later date. LECLAIRE BROTHERS 475 Provencher Blvd. in care of arrangements, 204-775-2220
