Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUSSELL DONALD GUINAN Peacefully with his family at his side, Russ Guinan passed away on April 20, 2016, at the age of 90 years. He leaves his wife Edna, children Greg (Paula), Dan (Joseph), Allan (Chris), and Carolyne (Tom) Lynch; grandchildren Elycia, Kelsey, Patrick and Katie; and great-grandchildren Daniella and Peyton. Russ was predeceased by his brothers John Guinan and Bill (Marcelle) Guinan. Russ was born in Paynton, Saskatchewan, on July 19, 1925, to Joseph and Mary Guinan. He grew up on the family farm along the banks of the North Saskatchewan River. As a young man he moved to Lethbridge to work in radio broadcasting and then started working for the CBC at the radio transmitter in Carman, Manitoba. He soon pursued further studies in radio engineering travelling to Washington, D.C., to attend college. Upon graduating he was hired by CBC Winnipeg and was involved in the first television broadcasts in Manitoba. He continued his career with the CBC for 35 years. Russ met Edna Cheys at work and they were married in 1956. Settling in Fort Garry they had four children who all graduated from the University of Manitoba. They spent many happy years travelling Western Canada with a travel trailer and later spent many vacations at Lake of the Woods campground near Rainy River, Ontario. While working in the television technical branch, Russ kept his skills sharp by repairing televisions and other electronics for friends and neighbours. These included the CBC gang and the Garnet Bay neighbours. Upon retirement in 1984, Russ enjoyed spending winters in Palm Springs and Victoria and summers in Winnipeg near the grandchildren. His hobbies included woodworking, watching sports and reading non-fiction books on many topics. Within the past few years he was still able to vacation in Cancun, Costa Rica and Newfoundland. Russ will be remembered for his sharp wit and always having a song ready for any occasion. Following a series of illnesses Russ entered a nursing home where he celebrated his 90th birthday last July. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 26, at 11:00 a.m. at Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive, with Father Kevin Bettens as the Celebrant. A private interment will follow on a later time. The family would especially like to thank the nurses and caregivers of Golden Links Lodge in St. Vital for their care and compassion in making his last days comfortable. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Canada or a charity of your choice THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

Greg and Dan. It has been decades since we've been in touch. So sorry it's under these circumstances. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers, and am sorry for your loss. Both my parents are gone, so I can understand how tough this can be. Be well and hope to get in touch some day. Best regards, Mark - Posted by: Mark Silbermann (friend) on: Apr 24, 2016
