ESTELLE CARMEL MASNIUK (neé CLEMENT) 1927 - 2016 Peacefully, at the age of 88, Estelle passed away at Prairie View Lodge in Pilot Mound, Manitoba. Estelle was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, John (Papa John) in 2015, as well as her sisters Jeannette Bernardin, Yolande Hartle and Cécile Clément. She leaves to mourn her passing her children, Trish, Dianne (Paul) Sambrooke, Gary (Bonnie), Bryan, Michelle (Don) Funk, and Cindy (Harmen) Westra, as well as 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn her brother Léo (Yvette) Clément, and her sister Claudette Clément. Estelle was born in St. Pierre-Jolys to Hélène and Michel Clément, the second of six children. She attended school in La Broquerie and completed her Grade 12 year in St. Agathe. After obtaining her teaching certificate, she began her teaching career in Narcisse, MB, where she met her future husband, John. For the first 10 years of their marriage, they lived in Narcisse, where the first four children were born. In 1957, they moved to Winnipeg. Estelle taught one year at Holy Cross Parochial School and then attended Teacher's College. She taught at Varennes and Minnetonka Schools, while going to Collège Universitaire de St. Boniface during the evenings and over the summer months to earn her Bachelor of Education. Estelle enjoyed several hobbies, some of which included knitting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and gardening. She spent many hours entertaining family and friends. She was an excellent cook, a gracious hostess and always set a beautiful table. One of her greatest loves was spending time with her grandchildren. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Estelle's life will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons Street. A very special thank you to the staff at Prairie View Lodge for the exceptional care she received while she was a resident there. We all have very fond memories of her and John, whether it be chatting in the backyard or being welcomed with open arms into the Masniuk home for family events.
