CAROL LYNNE JOHNSON (nee PINKOS) It is with great sadness that the family of Carol Johnson announce that Carol peacefully passed away on March 21, 2016 after bravely battling a brain tumor for the past year. Carol was born in Winnipeg on October 31, 1944 to proud parents Joseph and Mildred Pinkos. She and her brothers Bruce and Bob grew up in the city's West End where she first attended Sargent Park School and then Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. It was here that she met lifelong friends, "The Bridge Club", Barbara MacInnis, Beverley Tinkler and Connie Smullen. Once at Daniel Mac, Beverley Laping joined this boisterous group. These friends formed a close knit group and have enjoyed countless celebrations and antics for decades since. Carol had many friends, was a high school cheerleader, and thoroughly enjoyed her time at school where she participated in several activities including winning a City of Winnipeg volleyball championship. It was also during this time that she met the love of her life, Eric Johnson. Upon graduation, Carol worked for Greater Winnipeg Gas and Great West Life where she met her good friend Jennifer Swanston and began yet another lifelong friendship. While working, Carol "saved like mad" so she could travel to Europe with friends for six months. After being home for a few months, she promptly proposed to Eric. He clearly said yes! They were married on August 31, 1965. After several years they were blessed with sons Jeff and Grant. The young family moved to their house in Westwood and never looked back. Summers that were spent with the family at LacLu and later, Lake of the Woods, are some of her fondest memories. In 1979, the family was fortunate enough to purchase their own cottage in Clearwater Bay at Lake of the Woods and have spent as much time there as possible since. The cottage was Carol's favorite place on earth and she enjoyed summers there while the children were growing up. At the age of 44, Carol attended the University of Winnipeg where she studied psychology and sociology and afterwards, she was employed by the Winnipeg School Division for a few years as a teacher's aid. Eric and Carol went on to live in Toronto and England and took full advantage of their time abroad to fulfill their other love, travel, which they enjoyed virtually all of their married life. Eric and Carol enjoyed some of the most beautiful places on earth together and many of these adventures were shared with their family. Carol was an incredibly creative person and all that she created will be enjoyed for years to come. She was also one of the founders of Johnson Waste Management where in the early days, she worked the telephones, calculated payroll and scrapbooked when it wasn't busy. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting events and other occasions, and was an avid Winnipeg Jets fan. Carol was blessed with four grandchildren, Kendall, Coral, Cade and Zachary who were her pride and joy. Her eyes would light up every time they walked into the room. Family was very important to Carol and she enjoyed a warm and loving relationship with her sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren and much love was received in return. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by Eric, her husband of over fifty years, her mother Mildred, brothers Bob (Connie) Pinkos and Bruce (Darlene) Pinkos, sons Jeff (Tammy) and Grant (Shannon), grandchildren Kendall, Coral, Cade and Zachary, her sister-in-law Judy, several nieces and nephews and many cherished friends.
