MICHAEL MAGNUS TALGOY It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear brother and father Michael Talgoy on April 19 at the age of 63. Left to cherish his memory are his children Grainger and Alexander; his brothers, Ken (Gisele), Per (Carole) Erik (Karen); and nephews and nieces, Kevin (Dinah), Allison, Bradley, Natasha, Nikyla and Kirsten. Michael was predeceased by his parents Kjell and Marcelle (Kenny). Michael grew up in Fort Garry and Norwood, attending St. Paul's High School and University of Manitoba, graduating with a Masters Degree in Science. He worked as a Research Assistant at the Cancer Research Centre for many years and was a published first contributor in a number of research papers. He became an Entrepreneur with Wire Works Puzzles, making and selling wire puzzles all over North America. Later, he pursued a career in teaching, obtaining his Bachelor of Education Degree at U of M, teaching at Laureate Academy, Yellowquill Academy and Stevenson Britannia Adult Learning Centre. Mike retired shortly after being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2010 giving him the opportunity to pursue his dream of travelling the world with his sons and family. He loved the outdoors, hiking, canoeing, cycling, scuba diving and camping especially in the mountains. Michael was deeply caring of all people, volunteering as a Board Member of the Manitoba Prostate Cancer Support Group, Winnipeg Vegetarian Meetup Group and driving for CancerCare Manitoba, among other activities that he gave generously of his time. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ignatius Catholic Church Tuesday April 26 at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba or St. Paul's High School Bursary Fund would be greatly appreciated.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • It does not seem fair that someone with so much exuberance for life, with such willingness to share and give to others should be taken at such a young age. - Posted by: Paul Landry (Family) on: Apr 27, 2016

  • Michael has been a part of my life for almost 40 years. He had a loveable, eccentric, larger than life character that added spice to any and all occasions. Perhaps most impressive in my experience, he lived life with gusto throughout his journey with prostate cancer, almost to his very last day. Way to go Doc! - Posted by: Patrick Falconer (Friend) on: Apr 27, 2016

  • Michael was a good friend. He loved life, his family and God. He will be missed. Leanne Stasiulatis - Posted by: Leanne Sasiulatis (friend) on: Apr 26, 2016

  • Extending deepest sympathy to the Talgoy family on Mike's passing. Mike began as a volunteer driver for the Canadian Cancer Society's Transportation Program in 2012. Over 4 years he dedicated over 600 hrs of his time to the service and drove hundreds of cancer patients to and from their cancer treatments. Mike was a valued family member of the Society, he touched many lives and will be missed. Please know our thoughts are with you at this sad time. Staff & friends at the Canadian Cancer Society. - Posted by: Lynda Ruban (staff at the Canadian Cancer Society) on: Apr 26, 2016

  • We have worked with Mike on the Board of the Manitoba Prostate Cancer Support Group since his joining in 2011. Mike's extensive knowledge of this disease contributed much to those affected with prostate cancer. He willingly shared his story in an effort to help others. He was an enthusiastic and energetic participant in many of our activities. Our sincere condolences and sympathy go to Mike's family.
