IRENE DE BLONDE It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Irene De Blonde on April 24, 2016. Irene was born in Winnipeg on August 1, 1944. She was the loving spouse of Clare and guardian of her cherished pets, Brier, Ashes and Sage. She was predeceased by her father Roy Yackel. Irene is survived by her mother Nellie, brother Royce Yackel (Sharon), sister Debbie Bardal and nephew Ryan (Keri), great-nieces Kara and Cailin, niece Lisa (Terry), great-nieces, Hannah, McKenna and Aliegha, niece Andrea (Tom), great-niece Emily, niece Krystin (Billy), great-nieces Melissa, Melanie and Meleana, brother-in-law Garry, nephews Joel, Riley, and niece Karen. For our family, Irene's death leaves a heartache that no one can heal, but our love for her leaves a memory no one can steal. Irene began her 35 year career in the airline industry at Transair and retired with Air Canada. She loved to travel and spent many excursions overseas and also enjoyed 10 years at their winter vacation home in Palm Springs, CA. Her summers were spent with friends and family at their cabin on Lee River. Irene will be missed. She had a fun loving spirit that was an inspiration to all. Her energy, love, laughter and spontaneous tears were infectious. Although she succumbed to her illness, she fought with such courage and hope. She was able to spend her final days in her home with her family by her side as she wished. Special thanks to Dr. Dhaliwal, Dr. Czaykowski and nurse practitioners Debra and Denise, and Palliative Care nurse practitioners Tamara, Jenn, Jennifer and Sheila. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare, Canadian Wildlife and the Humane Society. In Irene fashion, a celebration of life will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2016. If you knew Irene at all, you had better be on time. It wouldn't be a celebration for Irene without her favourite colour so please honour her by wearing something yellow. Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 204-338-7111

  • Clare, we are so sorry to hear of Irene's death. The last time I saw both of you, you came to the hospital to visit my mother. At that time I thought what a kind and caring couple you were, and also how suited you were to each other and what a strong bond you had. I'm sure you will still feel that bond in all the places you loved and shared. Judy Ann Auger (cousin living in Minnesota). - Posted by: Judy Ann Auger (Clare's cousin) on: Apr 30, 2016

  • I have known Irene since 1966 when I started with transair. On my first flight, to Red lake Ontario, on a DC3 she was my check stew....... I was terrified of her, she seemed so stern and businesslike like .....I was 19 she was 22, we were so young! She came back online a while later, and I found she was a funny, caring girl, who is only doing her job. We had many flights over the years and many good times........we laughed often about that first flight. My most sincere condolences to her family, I know she will be missed so much. It is so sad to lose such a fantastic woman!! The Transair community will always remember her as one of our great "stews" !! oh!I have slipped the surly bonds of earth, and And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds....and done a hundred things you have not dreamed of....Wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there i've chased the shouting wind along, and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.. Up, up the long delirious burning blue I've topped the wind swept Heights with easy Grace Where never lark or even eagle flew.... And ,while with silent lifting mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand, and touched the face of God - Posted by: Maureen Coutu (Friend,ex colleague Transair) on: Apr 30, 2016

  • Dear DeBlond and Yackel Families: I'm sorry for the loss of your precious Irene. I grew up on McAdam Avenue and met Irene when I was ten years old. She, Valerie Allen and I had so much fun together. (Irene could play 'jacks' well and beat us everytime.) She was a beautiful child and what I remember most was her beautiful dark hair. I have met her a few times in the past while shopping in Lac du Bonnet. Hopefully she'll meet up with Valerie in Heaven. • Sincere condolences to Clare and family in the untimely passing of beloved Irene. She had a heart of gold and a dynamic personality with an amazing amount of energy to get things done. She could always be relied upon to be there for everyone and everything at any time. When our parents died she sent cards with a note in each one that said, "Cherish the memories". Irene will be so sadly missed by all who knew and loved her but cherished memories of her will last forever. Rest in peace lovely lady. - Posted by: Maria and Greg Anderton (Friends) on: Apr 30, 2016
