VICTOR WILLIAM MCLEOD 1952 - 2016 Peacefully on April 29, 2016, after a courageous battle, Victor passed away with family by his side at the St. Boniface Hospital. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his siblings Agnes (Don Collins), Bernice (Jacob) Friesen, Dennis (Suzanne), and Sharon (John Willis); daughter Kerri (Kevin); grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts, and his beloved cat Dexter. Victor was predeceased by his wife Lillian in 1986, son Joey in 2009; parents George and Sarah; brother Donnie, and sister Ivy Roebuck. Victor was born on January 22, 1952 in Norway House and spent his youth in Norway House and Grand Rapids, Manitoba. Victor attended high school at John Taylor Collegiate and returned to Grand Rapids where he started his career as a Teamster. After a few years, Victor began a career in the Exploration Drilling Industry starting with Midwest Drilling and continued to work for the next 35 years for the parent company Major Drilling. His work took him to various parts of North and South America, Indonesia and to one of his favourite places Red Dog, Alaska. Victor was always well-liked and respected by his co-workers. In recent years, Victor enjoyed living and working in Arizona with his brother and nephew. Victor had the opportunity to travel to the Isle of Lewis, Scotland with his dad and his two sisters, Agnes and Sharon to visit the birthplace of his great-great-grandfather, Donald McLeod. Victor was an entrepreneur investing in opportunities such as real estate and trucking and always ran his businesses with honesty and integrity. Victor enjoyed spending time at the family retreat in Fisher Bay, Manitoba where he enjoyed gardening, fishing, snowmobiling, and playing with his "toys". Victor loved all outdoor activities, animals and showed a great respect for nature. He had a great love for all of his family and although he was a quiet, thoughtful man his presence was felt and appreciated by all who were with him. Victor enjoyed the fellowship with the Men's club at St. Mary's and volunteering at St. Matthews Church lunches, helping people in need. He appreciated the care, concerns and prayers of St. Mary's parishioners for the home cooked meals and baked goods, and for the prayer shawl which was made for him by the special ladies. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Anglican Church, 3830 Roblin Blvd. with Reverend Lenise Francis officiating. A private family interment will take place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank Dr. Andrew Jowett, Dr. Valerie Gordon as well as the compassionate doctors, nurses and caregivers at the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or The Winnipeg Humane Society. To My Family I go from you gently for it is my time, To take the next step in this journey of mine; Don't grieve for me long - I've not left you alone, For I will be with you In the love that we've known, That love is forever and Some day when it's time You'll join me again on this journey of mine. I remember a time when me and Victor was teamed up at a lake near some Drillers Paradise,I was his helper and i myself always known him as quiet, Let me be one of the first to say, If he was given a Drill with problems and the muck being constantly freezing Make sure you "DUCK" cause he liked to beat the drill with his ,or should i say my pipe wrenches.I'm sorry to say,but that was one of a few times that i encountered a little of Vic's peeved moments. All in all,I always enjoyed being with all my older cousins and getting chances on learning new things. Driving those Tandems he had was Great, always enjoyed being at different pits and blocking some driver's with my last load at the entrance on account of there foul mouth on loading ones truck. He will always be a part of my being, Love you Cuz,James. - Posted by: James Disbrowe Jr. & Family (Cousin) on: May 03, 2016
