KIMBERLEY JANE THOMAS September 27, 1954 - April 29, 2016 It is with a profound sense of loss that we sadly announce Kim's death, after a hard fought battle with cancer. She leaves to mourn her passing: her partner Knight Morton and children McKinley, Sarah, Hayley and Keiran, grandchildren Alfred, Sophie, Oliver, and Samuel, son, Daniel Kuchma (Samantha Swanlund), mother Marian Thomas (McCoo), brothers Paul, Chic, and Peter (Kelly and Wyatt) Thomas, aunt Iris Lieber (McCoo) and uncle Rick McCoo (Linda). Kim was predeceased by her father "Chic" (William) Thomas; grandparents Seth and Irene McCoo, grandparents William and May Thomas, uncles Teddy McCoo, Jack Lieber (Iris), Lloyd (Jean), Jack (Sidney), Dennis Wyndels, and aunt June Thomas (Wyndels). From the time Kim was a young child, she embodied kindness, strength of character and a spirit of adventure. As she grew up, these qualities lead her to enjoy a life filled with great passions, successes and loving relationships. Kim freely shared of herself with all of those who touched her life, and she touched many. After graduating from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Social Work, she later went on to obtain her Master's Degree. Kim spent over 30 years assisting children, families and communities and was often heard to say how fortunate she felt to have been able to have had a career engaged in such meaningful work. Kim considered one of her most important jobs as being a mother to her beloved son, Daniel. Her love for him was central to her life. Kim also enjoyed her role as a stepmother, foster parent and aunt over the years. With her partner Knight, Kim's love was strong and spirited. Her nephew, Wyatt, had a special bond with Aunty Kim, a relationship she treasured. Kim felt so fortunate to have a close and loving family. She highly valued her relationships with her mother and three younger brothers as well as numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and others. Outside of her profession, Kim was known as the quintessential hostess. She loved nothing better than to bring friends and family together into the warmth of her home. She would treat her guests to sumptuous delicacies in an atmosphere of fun and laughter. Kim and Knight also loved to travel and this passion would take them to many destinations throughout the world. Kim was an exceptional friend to so many who were lucky to have been close to her. Her personality, wit and laugh were effervescent...it was infectious. Her abundant and generous spirit will live on in all who knew her and loved her. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and reception to remember and celebrate Kim's life will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. A special thanks goes out to Kim's close circle of friends and family. She was so grateful for their phenomenal support; they were always by her side every step of her challenging journey and gave so freely of their time, strength and love. As well, a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at CancerCare who do such wonderful work in such difficult circumstances. In addition, the family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Palliative Care unit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. A thousand words won't bring you back; I know because I've tried. Neither will a thousand tears; I know because I've cried. Like a butterfly in flight; You drifted off to paradise. A journey to the rainbow's end; Leaving broken hearts to mend. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I am deeply saddened at the news of Kim's passing, she was an amazing women with a heart of gold, who opened up her heart and home to me when I was just a struggling pre-teen. I will never forget living with her because she taught me so many things especially how to treat people with kindness and love no matter what. She was a true inspiration as a woman and a mother and taught me that life is not always easy but it can be good as long as you have a good attitude. She always treated me well and was never unkind to me. I will miss her and am glad she got to meet my daughter...I am not the woman I am today without her...I only have good memories of her. Love always Kim...Tammy. - Posted by: Tamara (Foster daughter) on: Aug 17, 2018

  • I had the privilege and pleasure of meeting Kim only a couple of times while I was visiting Winnipeg over the years. I remember one extraordinary dinner at the lovely home she shared with Knight, where the food was wonderful and the wine and laughter flowed freely. She lit up the lives of her devoted family, many of whom have a Kim-shaped hole in their hearts now. Condolences to the family and the many, many people whose lives Kim touched in her much-too-short life. - Posted by: Kathe Lieber (stepdaughter of Kim's Aunt Iris ) on: May 05, 2016

  • Kim was an amazing woman that I met at our clinic. I immediately connected with her because she lit up the room every time she came in and had such an easy going personality. I looked forward to greeting her each time I saw her. I am truly saddened by her passing, what a beautiful person inside and out. My thoughts are with the family. - Posted by: Kim (nurse assistant CCMB) on: May 04, 2016

  • I worked with Kim over several years and will always think of her as a mover and shaker, a passionate, vibrant person with an incredible commitment to doing her best in and giving her all to everything she set out to do. She inspired me with her vision of how things could be, this is something I will always cherish about Kim. Her belief in aiming high and not being afraid to imagine a better world. In the community Kim is very much loved and appreciated for all of the work she did with families, immigrants, refugees and others. She lived a super full life. I'm just so sorry that it had to end when it did. My thoughts are with Knight, Daniel and the rest of her family. I raise my glass to you Kim, a glass of the really good wine. Your wit, your super smarts, and your joie de vivre will continue on in the broad circle of life that you created while you were here. Grateful that I got a chance to know you better. Especially over the last couple of years. - Posted by: Janine LeGal (Colleague) on: May 04, 2016

May the arms of her memories embrace all of you and bring you peace. Sincerely, Debra - Posted by: Debra De Graeve (collegue) on: May 04, 2016
