DEBBIE MCDONALD (nee SOLTES) November 1, 1961 - April 30, 2016 On Saturday, April 30 at Riverview Health Centre, with her husband by her side, and after a long, hard fought battle with cancer, it is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Debbie McDonald. She is survived by her husband Gord, father Stan (Harlene), sisters Karen, and Sherry, brother Michael, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Joan Valentine. Debbie was born November 1, 1961 in Winnipeg and grew up in Transcona where she attended Murdoch MacKay High School. Debbie's working career began early as a young teenager at McDonalds Restaurants (how ironic) and later continued down a very diverse path, from driving a semi-truck and trailer, to working in the meat packing industry, then jumping to politics, where she worked for a federal member of parliament, then went to work for a Provincial MLA. Her most rewarding job however was her most recent, where she worked in the office at the Movement Centre of Manitoba. She developed a special bond with all of the kids and staff there, and also with her boss and "friend" Margy Nelson, who Debbie claimed was the best boss in the world. We wish to thank Dr. Kumar and staff at CancerCare Manitoba and also the staff at Riverview. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home, Highway #1 East at Navin Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, a donation can be made to CancerCare Manitoba (brain tumor research). As a fitting tribute, we close with the first verse of a song called "Thank You". If the sun refused to shine I would still be loving you When mountains crumble to the sea There would still be "You and Me" GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery (204) 222-3241 Condolences may be sent to www.greenacresfuneralhome.com

  • A wonderful lady to the core. Kind, fun-loving and with a really big heart. It would have taken a special person to capture my uncle Gord's heart. That's exactly what she is, and boy she did ever. With grace and fierce determination she gave every ounce to battling her illness and with the love of her life at her side every step. Love and respect aunt Deb. You are missed. Uncle Gord, we are thinking about you with heavy hearts. My deepest condolences to you, Deb's family, and her many friends. - Posted by: Jason Brooks (Nephew) on: May 04, 2016
