Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWAYNE ALBERT COUTTS April 22, 1951 - May 1, 2016 Surrounded by the love of his family and friends, Wayne passed away peacefully from Cancer, on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 23 years, Nicole (nee Roch), son Colin, daughter Michelle, brother Lynn (Barb) Coutts, sister Beverley (Chuck) Koppang, brothers and sisters-in-law Aline and Denis Bernard, Rene and Shelley Roch, Raynald and Nora Roch, Norbert and Darlene Roch, Marcel Roch and their families, plus many good friends, students and staff at Louis Riel Arts and Technology Centre where Wayne taught for the past 16 years. Predeceased by his parents Jack and Pauline Coutts, Wayne attended Archwood School, Nelson McIntyre High School and graduated from Portage la Prairie Collegiate. After two years at the University of Manitoba he obtained a certificate as a journeyman Motor Vehicle Mechanic from Red River College. He worked in various Winnipeg dealerships over the years then instructed for Injectronics. He graduated with an Auto Mechanic Permanent Vocational Industrial Teaching Certificate from Red River College. Wayne then took over the Automotive Technology Program at Louis Riel and developed it to the excellent program it is today. Wayne enjoyed teaching and worked hard to ensure his students were successful; not only in the automotive trades, but also in their personal lives. Many of his students maintained contact with him and would still often seek advice as they progressed through their careers. In his early years Wayne had a passion for restoring and racing cars at Bison (Gimli) Speedway especially his treasured green Javelin, now passed on to Colin to restore assisted by Michelle. He had a huge heart and was generous to a fault, repairing hundreds of vehicles for friends and relatives over the years for just the cost of the parts. He loved camping with his family, fishing, building things including his home, and was extremely proud of his family and their accomplishments. The family wishes to extend thanks to CancerCare Manitoba and the staff at Palliative Home Care and St. Boniface Hospital. As per Wayne's wishes, cremation has occurred. There will be a Celebration of His Life on Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Louis Riel Arts and Technology Centre, 5 de Bourmont Ave., Winnipeg. Flowers respectfully declined. I knew Wayne when I was the Superintendent of the Louis Riel School Division. Wayne was an excellent educator and a great person who made a difference in the lives of the young people he taught and also in the lives of his colleagues. However, I'm thinking mostly of Wayne's family at this time and wish to express my deepest sympathy on the loss of your cherished husband and father... far before his time. May memories of happier days help you in the weeks and months ahead. Rest in peace, Wayne. - Posted by: Terry Borys (Former Colleague) on: May 06, 2016

Mr.Coutts was the best teacher I had by a mile. He made class fun, could go way off on a rant, entertain you, and you would still learn more than you would have from another teacher. He would give me rides home when it was cold, take me for lunch, pay me to work on his vehicals, give me life advice, and cheer me up and calm me down. (I suffer from anxiety and depression) he was a wounderful human being, and not just a teacher, but a friend and role model. i miss him alot, he was a great man. you will be missed, 2 years of my life being your student, were some of the best times in my life. Rest in peace Mr. Coutts, I will never ever forget you. - Posted by: Justin Finch (Former student) on: May 06, 2016

He was a sincere man. I had a lot of trouble learning in school and he would always break things down for me and explain and put in extra effort , I would not have graduated high school it it was not for him. I now own a plumbing business and wouldn't be here with the patience of teachers like Wayne! Will always remember him. My condolences to the Familly. - Posted by: Scott (Student ) on: May 05, 2016

My condolences to Nicole, Colin and Michell. I knew Wayne since 1981 when my late husband introduced us. Saw so many changes for him over the years. His pride and love were for his family. He was so passionate about teaching and cared so much about his students. Loved camping and time with he's family. Wayne was a good, honest, always there and dependable friend. He was colourful and a big personality. Sorry he will not do the plans he had for retirement. Hope he meets up with Gaston wherever they are. Wayne was a good man and he will be sadly missed. - Posted by: De bra Royer (Friend) on: May 05, 2016
