EVA V. MACKAY May 20, 1914 - May 2, 2016 Eva passed away peacefully on May 2, 2016 at Extendicare Tuxedo Villa; a few days shy of her 102nd birthday. Born in Benito, Manitoba, she came to Winnipeg to complete her Nursing Studies and what would be the start of her 40 year nursing career that saw her work at both the General Hospital and Children's Hospital. She loved being a nurse and especially working with children in the Recovery Room. Service and leadership were large parts of Eva's life; she belonged to the Daughters of the Nile (Tambourine Unit), the Khartum Ladies Auxiliary, and the Legion Ladies Auxiliary where she was President three times. She was a lifetime member at the St. James Legion Branch #4 and was the Blood Donor Chairperson and Poppy Chairperson several times each. In 2001 she was awarded the Ladies' Auxiliary Meritorious Service Award for her many years of continuous service to the Royal Canadian Legion. Eva was a member of Sturgeon Creek United Church and went every Sunday until physically unable to do so. She appreciated visits from Church members who came to see her. She loved to travel and had two main travel companions over the years; husband Alec and friend Marj Martin. Her travels took her to Hawaii, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Great Britain and all throughout both Canada and the United States. Eva also had her own regal style, loved her broaches, and was never seen without her hair "done". Eva was predeceased by her first husband Ross Wright (1970), her second husband Alec MacKay (1989), and her daughter Leila (1991). Left to cherish her memory are granddaughter Lisa MacKenzie (Shane Cluff), and son-in-law Ken MacKenzie (Dale). Special thanks to the nurses, aides and staff of Tuxedo Villa for the care, support, love and time they had for Eva during her residence there. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Flowers gratefully declined. Should anyone wish to honour Eva, donations may be made to the St. James Legion Branch #4 Poppy Fund. Love you Grama For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website.
