  • Uncle Maurice. Where do I begin? The first thought that comes to mind is when uncle Maurice married aunty Olive. Their wedding reception was at my parent's house. I believe I was about 7 at the time. Uncle and Olive were always a lot of fun to be with as we were growing up especially when we went to many family socials. They loved to dance. Uncle Maurice was a hard working person and a great provider for his family. He worked at CN as a timekeeper till his retirement at age 56. It was a very stressful job, as he had to calculate all of the hours the crews worked plus their overtime, etc. All this was done manually, not just inputted in a computer program that does the compilation automatically, it was all hand made. I always admired his sense of community. After his retirement he volunteered for many different organizations. Uncle Maurice also had a great sense of responsibility not only for his immediate family, but also for his mother and siblings. He was always there to help if someone was in need. For example, after my father died, uncle asked a CN lawyer to help my mom with the paperwork. There were many other occasions similar to this where uncle Maurice was always there to help. Another thought that comes to mind is how he and my sister, Lorraine, had such a close bond. When Lorraine was born, my father was in the army for three years. The man in her first 3 years was uncle Maurice. As the story goes, she would even call him dada. Uncle Maurice loved all of his nieces and nephews. He was proud of us. We were so blessed to have him in our lives as well. Uncle Maurice, through our memories your story will live on. Thank you for being you. Rest in Peace, Uncle Maurice, you deserve it. Love you. - Posted by: irene Martin (nee Beaumont) (niece) on: May 11, 2016
