Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOREEN LOUISE BOTTERWEG January 29, 1930 - February 13, 2016 Peacefully, with friends by her side, Doreen passed away, at the age of 86 years. She leaves her son Toby Frechette; brothers, Harvey Boorne (Angela), George (Carol) and Bill (Cec), nieces and nephews, to mourn her loss. Doreen was predeceased by her son Bruce and her daughter Louise, both in 1998. She was also predeceased by her beloved husband Evert, in 2013. Doreen was born and raised in Toronto, where she spent many happy years raising her family. She and Evert were actively involved in the Optimists Drum and Bugle Corps with her son Toby, for many years as chaperone and all round cook and bottle washer. Doreen was also actively involved in the Girl Guides of Canada for many years and became a District Commissioner. The highlight of her time with the Girl Guides in Toronto, was to be a part of the planning for the Queen's visit in 1959. After Doreen and Evert moved to Winnipeg, Doreen worked for a number of years at Dallard's clothing store and again with the Girl Guides of Canada. Doreen and Evert spent many happy years as ambassadors for the Dutch pavilion at Folklorama, spending winters in Weslaco, Texas and taking cruises whenever possible. Doreen is deeply missed by her friends at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church. A memorial service for Doreen was held on Friday, May 13 at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church. DOREEN LOUISE BOTTERWEG Held gently in prayer by her family and friends, Doreen Botterweg (nee Boorne) passed quietly from this life to join those who had gone before her on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at the Concordia Hospital, at the age of 86 years. A memorial service will take place on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church, 525 Wardlaw Avenue. Longer obit to run in Saturday's paper.
