Date of Passing: May 10, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGARY ALEXANDER SAWCHUK It is with great sorrow we announce the sudden passing of Gary Alexander Sawchuk, beloved husband of Karen, on May 10, 2016. Gary was predeceased by his mother Helen in 2004 and his father Alex in 2005. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of almost 33 years, Karen, son John, grandson Jayden, sister Debbie Gallagher and brother Russell (Donna), as well as cousins, nieces and nephews. In his younger years Gary tried his hand at several jobs but at 22 he followed in his father's footsteps and hired on at CN Rail. He started in the yard and worked his way up to locomotive engineer. He retired at 55 after 34 1/2 years. He enjoyed many summers at Morden's Meadows Trailer Park but was content to putter around home after selling the trailer, although he and Karen did find time to do some travelling. After his retirement Gary decided to join Masonry and found a fellowship unlike anything he had ever known. He was Master of Capitol Lodge in 2014, he was rising through the ranks in Scottish Rite and had just been installed as Worthy Patron, Friendship Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. He volunteered weekly for the Canadian Cancer Society driving cancer patients to and from their appointments in one of the Mason vans. He loved his Masonic family. He also loved cars and his pride and joy was his black Mustang convertible. He was a lifelong animal lover and Winston and Calypso will feel his loss. Services will be held on Tuesday, May 17 at the Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery) at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Masons Care Driver's program or a charity of your choice.
