Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELEANOR IRENE REITH October 7, 1925 - May 7, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our much loved mother and grandmother. Irene passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre, having lived a wonderful life, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. She will be lovingly remembered by her son David Reith, daughter Linda and son-in-law Don Johnson, grandchildren Eric (Britni Baron) and Carleigh (Mark Beyer) Johnson and sister-in-law Marie Reith. She was predeceased by her husband Doug in 2000. Mom was born and raised in Winnipeg, and grew up in the West End with her parents Eleanor and Bill Little and brothers Bill and Reg. She met Doug, the love of her life, while working as a secretary for the Army after the Second World War. They married in 1951, built a home and raised their family in St. James. Mom was always sharp as a tack, and wise beyond words. She was an avid bridge player, and a wonderful baker and cook. She had to relinquish her celebrated Christmas Eve party when she moved to Colorado Estates in 1997, but continued to host family dinners well into her eighties, until she moved to The Wellington in 2011. She played an excellent game of bridge right until her recent hospitalization. She was truly a "gracious lady" until the end, well respected and loved by all who knew her. She will be fondly remembered and missed by many, especially her children and grandchildren. We would like to thank the Grace Hospital and the Health Sciences Centre for their excellent care, and express heartfelt gratitude to our family and friends for their overwhelming love and support. A private family ceremony will be held at a later date, when Mom's ashes will be interred with Dad at Brookside Cemetery. If family or friends so desire, donations to the Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7; 204-837-0375 (foundation@ggh.mb.ca), or Pancreatic Cancer Canada, #3500-2 Bloor Street East, Toronto, ON M4W, (www.pancreaticcancercanada.ca) would be sincerely appreciated.
