FRANK YAHIRO 1924 - 2016 It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Frank on May 6, 2016 at the age of 92. He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 64 years, Meg; his children Craig (Jane), Scott, Cheryl (Ken); his sister Harue of Toronto; nieces, nephews, many friends, and his special couch buddy, Hogan. Frank was born in Misson City, British Columbia on February 22, 1924; the second youngest of seven children. He came to Winnipeg in 1947 and honed his skills as a mechanic at Subway Garage on Main Street. He married Meg in 1952 and later moved to East Kildonan where they raised their family. Frank became the proprietor of Sherbrook Service in 1954. He maintained a highly successful business for 36 years taking great pride in helping all those who stopped by the station. Frank was an avid sports fan who excelled at baseball through his young adult years. When he realized his baseball days were over, he took to the links to chase a smaller white ball. As a respected member of Rossmere Golf and Country Club for 55 years, he cherished the memories with all the friends he made during this time. In his retirement, Frank enjoyed beautifying his yard and provided favourable lies to those who sprayed their drive on the first hole at Rossmere. Frank will always be remembered for his strong work ethic, kind heart, quick wit, and positive outlook on life. Spending time with Frank lifted your spirits and put a smile on your face. The family would like to give special thanks to the health care professionals at CancerCare Manitoba and the Palliative Care doctors and nurses whose compassion and support allowed Frank to remain comfortable at home during his illness. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Frank's life will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB. Reception to follow. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. "We love you, rest in peace." • My deepest condolences to the entire Yahiro family on the passing of such a wonderful man. As many did, I met Frank at Rossmere Country Club where you would always see him hard at work helping Craig in the Pro-Shop...his work ethic was truly second to none. More memorable for me, however, was Frank's warm, caring, fun-loving personality and his wonderful generosity. Frank was always there for our annual golf tournament, busy at work, making sure that our family was looked after...and quietly passing me a cheque as a donation to CancerCare Manitoba. I will cherish all these memories and I trust that the Yahiro family and friends will do the same...there are many of them and they truly last a lifetime. Rest in peace, Frank. You will be missed. - Posted by: Cam Moskal (Friend of the Yahiro's) on: May 14, 2016

  • Frank was always a pleasure to run into. His always smiling face seemed to put one in a good mood even before he greeted you. He was a fixture at Rossmere and will surely be missed. Frank and Meg raised three wonderful and respectful children together. Rossmere will never be the same. Remember the good times and stay strong.♡ - Posted by: Walter Christie (Friend) on: May 14, 2016

  • To the entire Yahiro family, My family, my husband Bill and I are saddened to know of your dear dad's passing. Knowing you from our school days I knew then that you had great parents. Which says a lot about all of you. You are lucky to come from such a good family. That is something precious to be proud of. Our condolences to you. - Posted by: Jill Palmer nee McWhinney (School friend of Craig and Scott) on: May 14, 2016

  • I hope I got the right guy. But when I was around 15 years old I saw a ballplayer named Yahiro hit a very long home run at CUAC community club. I remember that was the longest ball I have ever seen hit. I hope I got the right player. George Struck - Posted by: george struck (fan) on: May 14, 2016
