DANIEL HARRIS WILSON, D.C. February 22, 1953 - May 13, 2016 A beautiful human being has left us. We are devastated and our hearts are aching. The best thing in our lives was Dan loving us and having him love us back. He was a generous, kind and caring individual with a wonderful sense of humor. He cared deeply about his family. Dan was one in a million. He succumbed to mesothelioma after a dedicated and determined battle. Left to cherish Dan's memory are his wife Ester; sons Clayton and Kyle; nieces Amanda and Bethany, and caring family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and Harris; brother Duncan and sister Deborah. At one time Dan was a physical education teacher, having worked in the Midland, Transcona, and St. Boniface School Divisions over seven years. He received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1984, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Known as "Dr. Dan," he practiced for 32 years at his "second home", College Avenue Chiropractic on McPhillips St. He loved his work. Through his easy going nature, gentle manner, and competent skills, Dan connected easily with people and developed many friendships. Whether you are a friend, colleague, or patient, Dan and his family thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, concern, and encouragement throughout his illness. Dan believed in giving back to his profession. He served on and chaired numerous committees. He was elected to serve as a board member of the MCA for five years, holding the position of president from 1997-1999. He was elected to the position as the Manitoba Governor on the Board of the Canadian Chiropractic Association for six years from 2007 to 2013. Dan received the Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding contribution to the chiropractic profession in 2008. When Dan wasn't being a Chiropractor he loved to don his overalls and play Mike Holmes. Tinkering, fixing, building and creating were his hobbies. But he always said his proudest accomplishments were his sons Clayton and Kyle, whom he loved so dearly, and in whom Dan instilled a legacy of integrity, compassion, and respect. He enjoyed being a hands on Dad, cheering and supporting them in their activities throughout life, especially hockey. Dan also loved music. We always knew when Dad was on his way home because we could hear the stereo blaring from two blocks away. He fell asleep listening to music and woke up listening to music. Dan's Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive with Rev. Don McIntyre, presider. Donations in Dan's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
