HENRIETTE GAMBY (nee TOGNET) December 3, 1927 - May 18, 2016 Peacefully on May 18, with family by her side, Henriette passed away at Misericordia Place Personal Care Home, where she had been a resident for the past two years. She was predeceased by husband Albert in 1992, and brothers Albert and Joseph Tognet. She leaves to mourn her four children and their families: Joseph and Lillianne Gamby, Lillianne's children Renee (Aaron) and Matthew (Jennifer) and their children Harrison, Noah and Madeleine; George and Carol Gamby, their children Christopher and Andrew; Shirley-Anne and Christos Katopodis, their children Christina (Justin), Stephen, and Michael and their grandchild Christian; and Andre Gamby. She is survived by her sisters, Sister Marie Tognet, p.s.s.f., Alphonsine Di Nottia, and Bernadette Gamby, brother Louis Tognet, sisters-in-law Gisele and Rolande Tognet, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was born in Haywood, Manitoba to Sylvain and Brigitte (Picton) Tognet. Growing up in a large family during the Depression, Mom learned the values of working hard and caring for others. She had always wanted to be a teacher, but since the family could not afford to send her to high school in the next town, she stayed at home and helped with all the chores on her parents' farm. She met the love of her life, Albert, and was married in 1947. She had four children and together with Albert, worked on the family dairy and grain farm in Rosser, Manitoba. Henriette had a typical farm life looking after their children, tending to the needs of the household, keeping a large garden, doing the books and feeding the hired help. She also helped with milking cows and stacking bales during the busy summer months. In many ways it was a hard life, but Henriette always managed to look as if she lived the easy life of a lady. The door was always open for neighbours and guests to pop in and stay for lunch or a cup of tea. In later years she enjoyed the grandchildren who would come out to experience the joys of farm life. Although she didn't become a teacher, education remained very important to her and she encouraged her children and grandchildren to excel in their pursuits. Her faith was very important to her as well, and she was a dedicated member of the Catholic Women's League at St. Joseph's in Stony Mountain and St. Peter's, before joining St. John Brebeuf parish when she moved to Winnipeg in 1995. She enjoyed travelling, visiting Europe and Hawaii on several occasions, going on cruises with her friends, and travelling across Canada. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 10:30 a.m., St. John Brebeuf Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Place, with Father Mark Tarrant officiating. Interment will follow at the Belgian Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer Society, or Epilepsy Canada. A big thank you to the staff at Misericordia Place for taking such good care of Mom. LECLAIRE BROTHERS 475 Provencher Blvd. in care of arrangements, 204-775-2220
