VERA WARDELL March 2, 1921 - May 14, 2016 It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Vera Wardell. Vera will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her loving husband Alvin in 2001, her parents Fred and Catherine Bowles, brother Charlie Bowles and wife Marg, brother Fred Bowles and wife Vera, and sister Helen Wickens and husband Frank. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Greg Wardell (Sally), Rick Wardell (Susan), Linda Philpott (Brian); granddaughter Carri Gradt (Karl) and family, Kaden and Evan; grandson Jeff Philpott (Lindsey) and family, Samara and Payton. Mom was born March 2, 1921 in Parkbeg, SK and then relocated to Treherne, MB. At the age of 19, Mom moved to Winnipeg where she met Al, the love of her life and spent the next 60 years happily married. They were deeply in love and up to the day Dad passed, could be seen holding hands or sitting with their arms around each other. Mom worked part-time for many years at The Bay in the toy department. Once retired, she and Dad bought a travel trailer and camped around Manitoba with the grandchildren. She enjoyed the winter trips they went on, visiting Reno, Las Vegas and Phoenix. Mom loved to play Bingo, watch football and hockey. She had season tickets for the Jets and belonged to the Jets Booster Club. She spent many years playing bridge twice a month with a group of neighbourhood ladies. One of the great joys of her life was spending time with her four great-grandchildren whom she adored. The family would like to thank the staff and management at Lindenwood Terrace, the Home Care providers and Dr. Horvath and staff at the Victoria General Hospital. In keeping with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choosing. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I have great memories of Vera. She was a wonderful person, a lady at all times, a proud mother and grandmother and she and Al were a great couple! My parents were close friends to the Wardells over the years and my mother often spoke of the lovely parties they enjoyed together. My thoughts and prayers are with all the family at this time! RIP Vee. - Posted by: Betty Grier (Friend) on: May 30, 2016

  • Hello I am so sorry your precious mother is gone. She was always ready with a hug, even if she was hurting. We have gone back to the Terrace many times, and her beautiful smile always greeted us. We will surely miss her. May all your memories give you comfort. Your friends Abe & Olga Teichroeb - Posted by: Olga Teichroeb (Caregivers when Vera moved into Lindenwood Terrace) on: May 21, 2016
