DENISE H. BANIN (née GAUTHIER) It is with great sadness that we announce that Denise H. Banin (née Gauthier) passed away at the age of 60 on May 24, 2016, with her family at her side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Denise was predeceased by her father, Paul Gauthier; sisters, Janet and Paulette; and brother, Larry. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Doug; son, Grant; daughter, Jessica; mother, Mary; sisters Karen (Ross) McGowan, and Anna (Garry) Worth; brothers, Robert (Eleanor), and Ralph (Kathryn); and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Denise was raised and went to school in Lorette, MB; she then went on to Herzing Institute, where she graduated as a valedictorian. Denise began her career in 1979 with Canadian Pacific, where she worked as a Compensation Clerk, and later became the first female Claims Agent in CP history. In 1994, she married the love of her life Doug Banin, and in 1995, she began a career as an Investigator with a private firm. She was soon promoted to Branch Manager, and later to Regional Investigations Manager for the Central Prairie Region. She worked together with her husband for almost 20 years, until she retired in January, 2015. Denise had a passion for the outdoors, including yard work, and going to Wallace Lake to unwind. She was generous, compassionate, gave unconditionally, and was a mentor to many. She would leave a positive impression everywhere she went, and we will miss her witty humour and big smile. As her son said, she was the most intelligent, beautiful, strong, and genuine woman in the world. Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses at Cancer Care HSC, St. Boniface Hospital, and Riverview Health Centre. In compliance with Denise's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. LECLAIRE BROTHERS 475 Provencher Blvd., in care of arrangements, 204-775-2220

  • Aunt Denise was one of the most positive, kind-hearted people I've had the pleasure to know. I will cherish the memories of summer days at Wallace Lake and the Christmas we were able to spend together. Aunt Denise was such a positive influence on me growing up; always there to listen to silly pre-teen problems, treating me as an adult whenever we spoke. She will be sorely missed for her sense of humour, good advice, and big heart. Lots of love. XOXO - Posted by: Alexandra McGowan (Niece) on: Jun 03, 2016

  • Denise was THE toughest woman I've ever known and had an absolutely tremendous sense of humour. She was a good teacher, extremely intelligent and good luck to you in trying to win any argument with her. I had the opportunity to share in years of experiences with her and always been happy that I did. My deepest heartfelt sympathies go out to you. - Posted by: JC () on: Jun 01, 2016
