Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOTTILLIE MARGARET (OTTO) SCHADE July 25, 1923 - May 23, 2016 You are my portion, Lord; I have promised to obey your words. I have sought your face with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise. Psalm 119:57-58 On May 25, 2016, Ottillie (Tillie) Schade was taken from this world and placed where God dwells. Her lifelong goal of laying eyes on her Creator found fulfillment, and the eternal joy of His company is now hers. Tillie leaves behind an extensive family that was at the heart of her many prayers. The eternal destiny of those she loved was never far from her thoughts. She loved having her family gather during her time on earth, and that desire will be only stronger now that she is with God. Tillie is survived by husband, Henry, children, Darlene, Brian (wife, Debbie), Glenda Berg (husband, Mark), and son-in-law, Michael Hladky. Eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren are left to share in the inheritance of her faith. She will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews. Tillie is predeceased by two children, Garnet Schade (2016) and Vionna Hladky (2010), as well as three sisters and three brothers. Tillie's birthplace was a small farmhouse in Thalberg, Manitoba. Her humble beginning defined significant parts of her character. It gave her a sacrificial heart. Tillie put the needs of others above her own as a natural outflow of who she was, even setting aside a significant period of her young life to nurse her mother through the ravages of cancer. A life of service arose from that devotion. Tillie's humility also compelled her to seek out the disenfranchised. Visiting the sick and those in prison made her a companion to "the least of these" and, in turn, her Saviour. Out of her modest origins was born: a simple faith, an enduring trust, and an abiding hope in Christ. Tillie married Henry Schade on June 28, 1947. Together, they farmed on family land in Greenwald, MB until 1955, when Henry found work with the railroad. This change moved the growing family (Darlene, Vionna, Garnet) to Winnipeg. By 1961, Henry found new employment as a carpenter with Eatons and Tillie supported the family by caring for two more children (Brian, Glenda) that were born during that time. Two moves later, she settled their family into the house which she and Henry designed together. Her home was the hub from which Tillie enjoyed her growing family. She established a large garden in the back yard that gave expression to her green thumb. The faithful work of her hands played a large part in feeding her family all her life. She planted flowers to give their surroundings beauty. In a small way, she brought the farm to the city to teach her children to marvel at God's handiwork, just as she did. Tillie was always active in her church, whether it be through singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, leading the Prayer Chain, leading prayer groups, or visiting the sick and those in prison. She took great joy in serving her Lord in those ways. After a stroke in 2011, Tillie's great lament was her inability to serve guests that came into her home. Cooking and baking were tangible expressions of love throughout her lifetime and her home was always open to others. Tillie's beginnings may have been humble, but we rejoice that she now stands before an inheritance of heavenly proportions. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Christine Duprat, Brenda and Pam of the River East Access Centre, The Palliative Care Team, and our wonderful staff from We Care for the caring, compassion and dignity they offered Mom and us. Without them, her peaceful passing at home would not have been possible. Viewing will take place on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Concordia Church of God, 705 Concordia Avenue. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crisis Pregnancy Centre of Winnipeg.
