CATHERINE (CATHY) ANN COUGHLIN It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Catherine (Cathy) Ann Coughlin, 64, of Winnipeg, at her home on Wednesday, May 25, 2016. She is survived by her sister Margaret (Gary), nephew Cory (Giselle), niece Tammi (Carl), her grandnephew Keyshawn and three grandnieces Jenn, Tayejah and Haiden. She is also mourned by numerous friends and extended family, including aunts and cousins. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, John and Helen Coughlin. Cathy was born January 13, 1952, in Winnipeg, MB, and was a lifelong resident. She spent the majority of her work life in the civil service, working for the Government of Manitoba in the department of education. After more than a quarter century, Cathy retired in 2011 and spent her remaining years with her loving family and friends. Cathy was a selfless individual who enjoyed being the chauffeur, surrogate mother, babysitter, confidant, and shoulder to lean on to both her immediate family and extended one. Everyone who came in contact with Cathy knew they were loved and taken care of, without question. Throughout the 1970's, Cathy travelled extensively across Europe with friends. Despite getting a driver's license later in life, Cathy spent a great deal of time in her car. From cross country trips, weekend trips to the United States or driving around Winnipeg, she enjoyed the many conversations and private moments with both family and friends while behind the wheel. She was a proud supporter of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for many years. Whether she was attending a Bomber game, or supporting family at hockey games, junior and high school football, or cheerleading competitions, she was the loudest and proudest in the crowd. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

As we used to say back in the day Cathy was good people. She truly was a special person, which was evidenced by today’s funeral. Kudos to Carl, who in speaking for the family managed to deliver a very eloquent eulogy while obviously hurting with the loss of a loved one. Maggie/Gary, Cory/Giselle, Tammi/Carl, Keyshawn, Jenn, Tayejah and Haiden will surely miss Cathy for many years as will all of us who had the privilege of knowing her as family, friend or a friend considered as family. - Posted by: Lindsay Kolt (family) on: Jun 01, 2016

Aunty Cathy. You will truly be missed and will be thought about through out my life. Especially when I make the trip to Winnipeg to visit your family. How many times did you help out and drive myself or my family to wherever we needed to go? Countless. The patience you had to wait till we were done socializing. It never seemed to bother you. Why? You were among family and that's what you loved. You loved laughing at all our jokes. Cheering on the Bombers on numerous occasions with me. I remember you joking around when I was younger once I arrived if I didn't give you a hug. How you would say "I'm waiting for my hug". As I grew older this was something that came automatic. I will miss those hugs. I will think about you and talk about you all the time. - Posted by: Jason Antoski (Friend ) on: Jun 01, 2016

Words may not suffice to express the heartfelt sorrow that we feel for the passing of Aunty Cathy! She was a wonderful women, mentor, caregiver and best Aunty anyone could ask for. This women was so giving and cared for everyone that crossed her path. We were honoured, and blessed to have known Aunty and she was a true blessing to our family. She was always the first person to lend a helping hand to anyone and was so caring and giving when it came to helping out family! Aunty will truly be missed on and off the football field and we will miss our best cheerleader we ever had! Cathy was always there to ensure all the kids had rides to practices and football games. Rain, storms or snow she would be the only family still cheering for the kids. She will truly be missed and we will cherish every memory of her. We extend our deepest prayers and sympathies to the family. Remembering her wonderful and gentle soul will forever remain in our hearts! Love you Aunty! - Posted by: Peg and Shak Harris (Family) on: May 28, 2016
