DONALD C. TOLE Don passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 28, 2016, in Selkirk General Hospital, at the age of 79. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 56 years, Helen; his four children, Heather (Mark), Larry (Shawn), Lynn, Cathy (Dean). He also leaves three grandchildren, Bradley (Carmen), Emily, and Caitlyn Kammerlock; and one great-granddaughter, Natalie. Don also leaves behind his twin brother Ron (Myrna), Earle (Janice) and sister-in-law Anne. He was predeceased by his brothers, Ken and Stuart. Don also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins. Don was born in Pilot Mound, MB. After university, he entered in the educational field in Portage la Prairie and Seven Oaks School Division. After retirement, Don and Helen moved to the lake at Sandy Hook and spent 15 years there before moving to Lockport. Don was an active member of any community he lived in and always kept his church as a large part of his life. He spent 18 years as an active member of Kiwanis, rising to the rank of Governor of Western Canada District and serving as Foundation Member for six years. A funeral service to celebrate Don's life will be held on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Selkirk United Church, 202 McLean Ave., in Selkirk, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Selkirk United Church. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.

  • We were very saddened to hear of Don’s passing. Over the years Helen and Don gave us such wonderful hospitality and fun conversations. We also very much admire all their/his community work and strive to emulate it ourselves. Wendy has fond memories of visiting Sandy Hook one summer and performing her puppet show for the church summer camp of enthusiastic children.   • Very saddened to hear of Don's passing. Don and Helen always welcomed me into their home. I remember having iced tea with them while they worked on the crossword from the newspaper. They also helped me make a move back to Saskatchewan. Though we have not visited for some time I think of them with great fondness.
