DARREN COSENTINO Darren's family announces his peaceful passing in the early morning hours on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, following a fierce and courageous battle with cancer. Darren will be sadly missed but forever adored by his wife Sara Cosentino, parents Ramon and Doreen Cosentino, in-laws Bill and Mary Koonz, and brother-in-law John (Vivian) Koonz. Left to cherish Darren's memory are his many cousins, his very special Auntie Virginia Cosentino and Aunt Gertrude Hagman. Darren had a remarkable ability to draw laughter and energy from all those around him. He was a guy who had several nicknames, the most notable being The Cos'. Cos was the story teller when lounging with friends at the cottage, the educator / instigator when it came to paddle boarding, water skiing, swimming, wake boarding, fishing, hunting, cooking and scuba diving. He shared life experiences with enthusiasm and colourful detail with one single goal; to influence others. Forever generous with his time and resources he had profound impacts on so many people of all ages and abilities. Darren inspired people to tempt their comfort zone and live life to the fullest. He did this in a fashion that was thoughtful but unwavering. He did not back off or allow his friends to quit. Instead he extended a helping hand, more of his time and patience. Darren worked at Bison Transportation for 20 years. He earned considerable respect in his profession as he was a natural salesperson. The relationships he developed with colleagues fostered friendships with bonds tighter than family. Bison family. Darren was tireless in his pursuit for quality of life. Despite a shocking stage IV colon cancer diagnosis in January 2011 he defied all odds. Darren took an aggressive approach to treatment with a consistent request to "give me all you've got". Physicians and treatment teams responded with 46 rounds of chemo, more than half a dozen surgeries and countless medical appointments, MRIs, and CT scans in pursuit of life. In December of 2013 while snorkeling in Mexico Darren's heart stopped beating. For over 20 minutes he received CPR before four electric shocks restarted his heart, spent many days in a coma but miraculously he walked out of the hospital seven days later. Darren had an insatiable will to experience life to the fullest, not just extend time. At every medical visit Darren established deep connections with his treatment teams. He was polite but aggressive in his desires for life, and medical staff responded with incredible advocacy. A special thank you for the exceptional care and love provided by Dr. Pat Harris and her outstanding Grace CancerCare Team, Dr. Jeremy Lipchitz and his entourage of residency students, Dr. Jeff Mottola and physician teams in Cozumel, Miami, Toronto who all honoured Darren's wish to fight for life. Darren pursued the cottage lifestyle with an incredible array of interests; our Tresoor Point family will miss his culinary skills which were proud expressions of his Italian heritage. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 6, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Calvary Temple, 440 Hargrave. The family has the support of pallbearers, Sandy Burt, Michael Ludwick, Ken Loscerbo, Dean Fiorentino, Robert Penner, Trevor Fridfinnson, Shauna Arsenault, Matthew Hoffer and Paul Norris.
