JUDITH BRAID Judy's deteriorating health resulted in her passing on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Oakview Place care home. She is survived by her husband Arthur, son Kyle (Nicole), daughter Lianne (Dean) and her three granddaughters, Penny, Isla and Sasha. She is also survived by her brothers who reside in England, Dick (Angela) and Tony (Lis) Pollard. She was predeceased by her daughter Sondra, her siblings, Malcolm, Daphne and Sue and by her parents Bill and Irene Pollard of Leicester England. Judy was born in Leicester England and was educated at Abbotts Bromley school for girls in Staffordshire. She qualified as a short hand secretary, immigrated to Canada in 1958 and was employed as a legal secretary for the late Archie Dewar Q.C. She married Art in 1961 and managed to put up with him for 54 years. Judy left her career to raise their three children while managing an extremely busy household. Without Judy, any of Art's accomplishments would not have been possible. Over time she was forced into becoming an avid TV sports fan and spent many hours watching hockey, golf, curling, and football to name a few. Judy spent many hours tending to her garden on Vialoux Drive. It was the thing she missed the most when she moved into the Vasa Lund Estates. Judy's family were spoiled by her Sunday dinners. She was an excellent cook and those dinners were of five star quality in both taste and presentation. Her gravy was at times near perfection. In fact, Art claims that he proposed after tasting it. Penny's favourite food is now and will always be "Grandma's stuffing". Judy took particular delight in spending time with her granddaughters, both in Winnipeg and while visiting BC. Judy's parish church of St. Mary's Anglican was important to her and she made many friends as one of the stalwarts of the Altar Guild for over 25 years. Judy's last few months were made more tolerable by their frequent visits. A memorial service will take place on Friday, June 10 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Anglican Church, 3830 Roblin Blvd., Reverend Lenice Francis officiating. A reception will follow the service. Flowers gratefully declined. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • I just heard of Judy's passing. I sold her Mary Kay products for many years. She was one of my favourite customers. I spoke of her often, even my family knew who Judy was! I enjoyed our visits and I was privileged to have tasted her shortbread cookies. She always sent me home with a little care package at Xmas time. I felt like I new your family because Judy always had wonderful stories to tell me about your children and grand children. My prayers are with you and your family. I will truly miss her. - Posted by: Sandy Theriault (friend through Mary Kay) on: Jul 20, 2016

  • My name is Lib Downes and my friend Irene Crofts was in the bed across from Judy when she was in Deer Lodge Hospital. I always enjoyed visiting with Judy when I went to visit Irene. It turned out that they were both in Oakview later, and both on the third floor. Judy's daughter may remember Irene and I meeting her & her mom one day at Oakview. Unfortunately Irene didn't remember Judy, but I certainly did, and thought she was a lovely woman. I remember her husband visiting Deer Lodge every time I was there. I also remember her visitors coming from England and she sharing some English candy that they had brought her, with Irene and I. I was shocked today when I went down the hall with Irene for a visit and found out that Judy had died. My heartfelt sympathy to all her family ......she was a lovely woman and I know you'll miss her terribly. Lib Downes - Posted by: Lib Downes (friend from Deer Lodge Hospital) on: Jun 14, 2016

  • Hi Art, I am sure I did not ever meet your dear wife, however after reading the Free Press tribute to her I certainly wish that I had. I definitely need her gravy & stuffing recipes! You and my father (Dr. Cameron Jay, Agriculture) served together on UM Senate 100 years ago! I was in the investment industry (Commerce degree from the '70s) and then after a great career there I (as a mature student) got into Law School. You were the Dean. We became friends to some extent. I do recall when your daughter Sonya passed that we had some communication. As a result of your recommendation I taught Sales & Consumer Law for 5 years during the "whelping period" of my 2 wonderful daughters. Of interest perhaps was the fact that our now Associate Chief Justice Shane Perlmutter was in my class the first year that I taught. He was, and remains, a brilliant individual. I would love to get together for a coffee/lunch. If you are so inclined please call me at (204) 612-0051. My invitation is genuine. • I remember several visits as a child when you (Art), Judy and your wonderful kids: Kyle, Leanna and Sondra, came to visit us in Oakville. I also remember when I was a university student and got stranded at the Winnipeg airport, while traveling stand-by on my way back to Ottawa. You and Judy welcomed me to your home overnight, and got me back to the airport early the next morning. Please know that the Yorkes (Bob, Donna, Marina and Christine) are thinking of you all during this difficult time, and wishing you peace and happiness in your wonderful memories of Judy's great life. Take care, love from Marina and Family - Posted by: Marina (Yorke) Pinder and Family (Family friend) on: Jun 04, 2016

  • Art and Family - we are so sorry for your loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Diane (Pidskalny) and Alex Hrychuk (friend of Art) on: Jun 04, 2016
