Date of Passing: May 31, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGUDRUN J. HORNFJORD With great sadness, the family of Gudrun Hornfjord announces her passing on May 31, 2016, at the Arborg Personal Care Home. Left to cherish her memory is her loving daughter Freda (Emile) Psooy; son Harold; grandsons Greg (Lindsay) and Russ (Sina), along with her precious great-grandchildren, Jack, Erik, Brynn and Olivia. She is also survived by nieces and a nephew. Gudrun was predeceased by her husband John, her parents Tryggvi and Sella Gudmundson, her brothers, Tryggvi, Steve and Eddy, her sisters, Freda and Kristjana, and brother-in-law, Gauti. Following their marriage, John and Gudrun farmed the family homestead until 1987 when they retired to Arborg. Our Mum (Amma) was a "jack of all trades" during her farming years. She had many years involvement with the Arborg Agricultural Society, winning a multitude of ribbons at the yearly fairs. Her other passions included decorating elaborate wedding cakes, and nurturing her vegetable and flower gardens, a legacy we treasure. Mum (Amma) will always be remembered for her feisty, strong will and her willingness to help and share with others. A special thank you to the caring staff and home care workers at the Arborg Assisted Living, to Dr. Siddiqui, and to the nursing staff at the Arborg Personal Care Home. A Memorial Service celebrating Gudrun's life will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary Schenk officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church, the Arborg & District Health Centre Foundation, or to a charity of your choice. I just found out today about Gura's passing. Gura and my dad were cousins. Dad and I visited Arborg in 1996. We stayed at a Bed and Breakfast, and Dad asked the proprietors if they knew Gura. Of course--everyone knew Gura! :) They called her and told her we were there, and she immediately invited us over for a meal. Dad hadn't seen Gura in probably 50 years, and I'd never met her. The second we met, though, I felt like I'd known her forever. She made me feel so welcome. She is what family should be. Love, hugs, and prayer for you all. - Posted by: Ruth Davies (cousin) on: Jul 10, 2016
