THOMAS BLANCO It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Thomas Arthur Blanco, after a brief illness, on June 4, 2016. Tom will be loving remembered by his wife Barbara Blanco; children Russ (Kim) Blanco, Greg (Karen), and Kim Blanco (Todd Bradley); grandchildren Morgan Blanco, Mackenzie Blanco, Joe Blanco, Christian Blanco, Connor Bradley and Marlin Bradley; and sisters Marilyn Pennell and Patricia Manchur. Tom was predeceased by his parents William (Bill) James Blanco and Margaret Mary (McKitchen) Blanco; and sister Shirley Skelton. Tom Blanco was born on May 11, 1942, his parents William James Blanco and Margaret Mary McKitchen raised him and his sisters Marilyn, Patricia and Shirley in Fort Whyte and then later in Sanford Manitoba. He was baptized on December 14, 1947 at St. Paul's Anglican Church in Fort Garry, Manitoba. On October 28, 1962 Tom Blanco married Barbara Pylypas at the Holy Family Parish on Grant Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Tom and Barb went on to buy a house on Lorette Avenue and raised their three children Russ, Greg and Kim. Tom, a hard worker, worked two jobs to support his family in the early years at the Basswood Shell Station on Portage and Thomas Rathwell for over 35 years. He later worked at Kern Hill Furniture Co-op where he truly enjoyed the friendships he built there. Tom enjoyed coaching and going to his children's activities near and far. He enjoyed gardening and spending time in his yard. Tom and Barb also loved to travel down to the states to the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen, Minnesota. In the early years Tom enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family. A private graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or a charity of choice. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • While I was in high school in the 60's I was fortunate enough to have a weekend/summer job working for Mike Shelfontuk at Basswood Shell Service. It was there that I met Tom. We worked many shifts together. Tom was energetic and eager, kind and charismatic, always smiling and quick to laugh, and a joy to work with and to know. And he always lit up proudly when talking about his young family. In my early adulthood we visited occasionally at Thomas Rathwell and I saw that his work ethic and personality were apprecated by all who dealt or worked with him. I've lived away from Winnipeg for many years, but the impression Tom made upon me has lasted. He was a kind, generous man. An excellent example for this impressionable youngster. I hope his family find some comfort in their memories of him, and the fine example he set for others. - Posted by: Doug Charles ((old) friend) on: Jun 09, 2016

  • Tom, Barb and their children were life long neighbours and friends to my family. Tom was a kind and lovely man who always treated my dad with good humour and respect. Thanks so much Tom. You will be missed. Condolences to Barb, Rusty, Greg and Kim. - Posted by: Susan Rinn (friend and neighbour) on: Jun 08, 2016
