ANNETTE MAE BUCHAN (nee BOUCHARD) 1934 2016 Peacefully on June 8th, 2016, our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Annette Mae Buchan, passed away at The Misericordia Health Care Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Annette was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan. According to her, she was the first baby born in Tisdale. We celebrated her 82nd birthday in February and Mother's Day with the family. We were all blessed to have Annette in our lives for so many years. Annette will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Heather (Bill), sons Mark, Edward (Nancy), Brian Whiteford; grandchildren Marney (Cory), Lei, Jeremy (Karen), Jessica (Grant); great-grandchildren Dylan, Nicholas, Emelia, Kory and Kaitlin; brother Alvin; sisters Arlene and Myra; brother-in-law John (Bunny); nephews; nieces; cousins and friends. Annette was predeceased by her husband Brad; parents Edna and Albert Bouchard; and brothers-in-law Gary Williamson and Glen Amer. Annette enjoyed her early years growing up with her parents, Edna and Albert Bouchard, and her siblings, Alvin, Arlene and Myra, in various towns from Saskatchewan to Manitoba. She was always proud of the Bouchard family and a knowledgeable source of information on the family's heritage. Annette attended St. Michael's School in 1942 in Brandon and Ste. Anne's School in Winnipeg until grade 8. In the early 1950's, Annette worked at Christie Biscuits where she met her lifelong sweetheart, Bernard (Brad) Buchan. They were married on November 20th, 1954 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Winnipeg. Annette and Brad raised their three children, Heather, Mark and Edward in the West End and in 1963 moved to 238 Rutland Street and finally 211 Amherst Street in St. James, where they resided for over 40 years. Throughout the years Annette also worked at home raising her family, decorating and fixing the house, Sears, the new Eaton's store in 1967, Canada Drugs and finally Lighting Unlimited, as well as enumerating during elections. Annette was a devout Catholic and rarely missed a Sunday at St. Anne's or St. Paul the Apostle. In her spare time Annette enjoyed baking, crocheting, playing cards and bingo, the casino, watching TV, building puzzles, bowling in the St. James Bowling Leagues, playing on her iPad and babysitting her grandchildren. She loved family celebrations and dinners. She was an amazing cook and baker and loved trying out a new recipe from one of her many cookbooks. One of the gifts Annette left the family were the well-organized photo albums to cherish, with countless photos of the memories of happier times. In 2014 Brad passed away in April and life was never the same. Annette was heartbroken when she lost the love of her life. They would have celebrated their 60th Diamond Wedding Anniversary in November of that year. Together with the loss of her soul mate and her declining health, Annette just couldn't rekindle the joy in her life and gave up. Without Brad, selling her home, several moves from hospital to Ed and Nancy's home, The Westhaven and finally The Misericordia Health Care Centre, Annette left us to be with Brad and return to a life with God in heaven. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Interim Care 6 at The Misericordia for the wonderful care Annette received. Annette was a strong willed, fiercely independent woman that, until the very end, chose to leave us upon her own terms. We believe that Annette is at peace and once again dancing cheek to cheek with Brad in heaven. We all loved her so much and are grateful for the time, support and love she shared with all of us. Rest in peace Mom, "Big Nana", Great-Grandma, Sister, Aunty and friend ... until we meet again. We love you! "Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy." (Inuit Legend) Funeral service will be held on June 16th, 2016, at St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2400 Portage Avenue, at 10:30 a.m. followed by burial at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue. A lunch reception will follow at Chapel Lawn. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
