ALBERT JACOBS It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and friend, Albert Jacobs, on June 13, 2016. Dad was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, on December 14, 1925. He is survived by his wife Elsie, of 66 years; son David (Denise); daughters, Doreen (Peter), Brenda (Danny); grandchildren, Kristen (Kerry), Cecily (Rob), Kaleigh (James), Dana, Ashley (Mike), Sabrina; and great-grandchildren, Calla, Hunter and Braxsen. Dad was a child soldier during the Second World War, having lied about his age to enlist and seek adventure. After the war, he moved to Winnipeg and worked for over 30 years as an automotive mechanic, ending his career in 1982 as Shop Foreman with McNaught Pontiac. Dad could fix almost anything and helped many with their automotive and other repairs. He had many happy years in retirement, travelling with Mom in their motorhome to Arizona in winter and living at Twin Lakes Beach in summer. A highlight for him was obtaining his private pilot license and being honoured by the Winnipeg Flying Club as the oldest graduate of the private pilot program. He took great pride in staying active and at the age of 90, checking his Fitbit often. He will be sadly missed. Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, with interment to follow in Thomson In the Park Cemetery. Viewing will take place one hour prior to service. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Albert may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of one's choice. • Oh, I am so very sorry Elsie, and Doreen, David and Brenda...... I have such wonderful memories of your family at the lake and the great times we all had together. You will laugh at this, but I always viewed your father almost as a Clark Gable type....like swash-buckling cool!! He always looked so neat in his typical summer garb of his long pants and leather boat shoes as he walked out to the boathouse everyday to putter or prepare that beautiful boat he made for water skiing! And I still hear the ringing of those horse shoes.....your father, the best on the beach by far!! He was always ready and willing to help many, many times when I was out there on my own and needing his wisdom and experience with things like getting the pump going or my car and what-not! I am sending prayers and love your way today and in the days and months ahead. Many blessings, Marilyn - Posted by: Marilyn Erhart (friend and neighbour) on: Jun 19, 2016

  • I offer my heartfelt condolences to Elsie and all the family. I have had Albert in my life since I was a child. Fifty years of respect and admiration from and for Albert have had a profound positive effect on my life for which I am truly greatful and blessed. His character was always steadfast and abiding, sincere and humble. Albert was exrtrodinary in a way that I will reflect on for the rest of my life. Only three years ago near sunset he climbed into the engine compartment of my skid-steer loader and removed the defective starter, then spent 15 minutes searching through boxes of parts in his garage until he found the necessary parts. He then disassembled the starter, repaired it and re-installed it on the lakeshore in the dark. I was his proud helper though I was 30 years his junior. This was one of the many character building experiences Albert shared with me over the years. I am truly grateful and so sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Rick Erhart (Nieghbour) on: Jun 18, 2016
