KATHLEEN MARGARET PUNTON Kathleen Margaret Punton (nee King) died peacefully on June 13, 2016 at River East Personal Care Home in Winnipeg at the age of 88 years. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Robert (Colleen) Punton, Ellen Symington (John Froese) and Lois Punton; grandchildren, Kent, Preston, Jackson, Dylan, Meredith and Morgan; nieces, nephews, many other family members and close friends. Margaret was born February 13, 1928 in Bird's Hill, Manitoba to her parents, Catherine (Cassie) and Ernest King. Margaret attended school in Bird's Hill and Warren, Manitoba. When she finished High School, Margaret was asked to teach at the school in Beaconia, MB. Eventually, Margaret moved to Winnipeg and while living in a boarding house on Dominion Street she met Robert Walter Punton who resided in the same house. Margaret and Walter were married on July 21, 1954. As their family grew they moved to a house on Springfield Road. In 1960 Margaret and Walter picked up their tools and together built the house on Sharron Bay. They shared this home until Walter's death in July, 1997. Shortly after her 80th birthday, Margaret's health began to deteriorate more significantly as she underwent surgery for cancer and as Alzheimer's Disease/dementia took a firm hold. Margaret's most important work was making a home for her family. She raised her three children and cared for Walter with a love that was unconditional and unmatched. After her children were all independent, Margaret worked for Cambrian Credit Union. Margaret had a deep faith and shared this through her active participation in North Kildonan United Church, her other family. She sang in the choir, was a member of the United Church Women, served on committees and boards too numerous to mention, and was active in Winnipeg Presbytery for many years. She often referred to herself as "self-appointed church busybody." Music was one of Margaret's favourite things. She had a lovely voice and enjoyed singing whether it was in the choir or around the house. As recently as last Friday, even though she seemed unaware of what was happening, as soon as the fiddle started to play at the care home's happy hour her head started to bob up and down and she started to hum. She loved music! Margaret will be remembered for her laugh, her beautiful spirit, her positive outlook, the love she shared, and the smile she had for all she met. Family would like to offer special thanks to the amazing staff of River East Personal Care Home, to Rev. Marc Whitehead and the people of North Kildonan United Church. A service celebrating Margaret's life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 18 at North Kildonan United Church, 174 Pentland Street, Winnipeg, MB with the Rev. Marc Whitehead presiding. No flowers please.
