NETA SMITH (nee REMPEL) On April 29, 2016 at Action Marguerite, at the age of 96. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, her deceased husband's daughter Jan (Bob) Proctor, their children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Ernie; parents, Jacob and Sara Rempel; brothers, Peter (Chris), Jake (Ellie), Henry, Nick (Kay); sisters, Lena (Ike) Voth, Margaret, Sara (Bill) Tate; and little brother Abe. Neta was born February 9, 1920, in Nova Petrovka, South Russia. The family immigrated to Canada in 1925, eventually settling in Starbuck, Manitoba. She moved to Winnipeg in 1940, where she got a job with Eaton's. She eventually settled into a supervisor's position at MTS, where she remained for 25 years, until her retirement in 1977. She immediately started spending her winters in Mesa, Arizona and would continue that for the next 25 years. Mesa was a place where she met and made numerous new friends, including her future husband Ernie, whom she would wed in 1993. Neta loved to travel, spending time in Europe, Mexico, Cuba, Hawaii and on numerous cruises. Neta moved into Action Marguerite nursing home in 2010, where she was cared for by a very compassionate staff. She was generous to a fault and loved by everyone whose lives she touched. She will be missed. Memorial service will be held Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg, MB.
