Date of Passing: Jun 17, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryESTHER VERMEERSCH (nee SYS) With her family by her side Esther Vermeersch (Sys) of Baldur, MB passed away peacefully on Friday, June 17, 2016 at the Baldur Personal Care Home at the age of 89 years. Born and raised on her family's dairy farm in St. Boniface, here she worked alongside her siblings milking cows and doing field work. She delivered milk to the Modern Dairies plant in Winnipeg. She and her family were well known in the Belgian community of Winnipeg. She married Homer Vermeersch of Baldur in 1967; here they worked side by side on the farm. She was never scared of hard work. She milked her one cow everyday till her mobility became an issue. She loved gardening and canning. Esther loved to play cards, bien especially; they danced with the St. Alphonse High steppers club for many years. She donated to many community auctions and not just one community but several. In her later years all that hard work took a toll on her mobility but that never stopped her, she would spend countless hours on the phone speaking with friends and relatives. She loved to spend time with her three grandchildren, whether it was gardening or the after school snack she made for them and always wanted to know what they were doing. Her faith kept her strong through the last few years, and the love she showed towards her family kept her going till the end of her life. She is survived by her son Joe (Darrian) Vermeersch; grandchildren, Thomas, Jack, Megan; and her sister-in-law Cammy Sys and numerous nieces and nephews. Esther was predeceased by her husband Homer Vermeersch; parents Camiel and Amandina (Van Drom); sisters and brother-in-laws; Marguerite (Armand) DeBaets, Mary (Andy) Kestloot, Jeanette (Jules) Gheeraert, Audrey (Dave) Poole; and brother George Sys. Prayers and visitation will be held on Tuesday June 21, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. in the Willmor Chapel, Glenboro, Manitoba. Mass of the Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Alphonse Catholic Church, with Father John Te Nguyen and Father Phillip Malayil as Celebrants. Interment to follow in the St. Alphonse Parish Cemetery. Following the interment, a reception will be held in the St. Alphonse Community Hall. Everyone is welcome.
