OLGA BREDIN Olga Bredin passed peacefully to her heavenly home on Friday, June 17, 2016, at Calvary Place Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at 100 years of age. Olga was born to Emil and Helena Bredin on December 25, 1915, in Siberia, Russia, the fourth of five children, while her family was living in exile during the Second World War. In 1918 the family returned to Ukraine and rebuilt their farm which had been destroyed by the Communists. The family immigrated to Canada in 1926 and lived with the Emil Gruenke family near Emerson, Manitoba. In the spring of 1927 they moved to Overstone, Manitoba, where they farmed until 1945. On March 11, 1940, Olga married John Bredin who farmed near Morris, Manitoba. They moved to the Town of Morris in 1945 where John worked as a blacksmith and Olga as a homemaker and a cook. Three children were born to Olga and John: Gottfried, Zelma, and Bernard. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1961 where John worked in construction and Olga was a Nurse's Aide at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital for 18 years until her retirement in 1979. In 1991 Olga moved from her house into Bethel Place, and from there she moved to Calvary Place Personal Care Home in 2012. Olga's faith and participation in church were important to her throughout her life. She was raised in a Christian home, she professed a personal belief in Jesus Christ from the age of 14, and she endeavoured to live a life in harmony with the Bible. Singing and playing hymns on the piano gave her great joy. A highlight of her spiritual journey was her trip to Israel where she was able to walk where her Saviour had walked. Olga took pleasure in crocheting, knitting, gardening, and reading; however, her most enjoyable times were family gatherings. She was diligent in preparing and serving meals and in welcoming family into her home. A dominant trait of Olga's character was contentment. No matter what her condition or her circumstances, she strove for contentment with godliness. Olga was predeceased by her parents, two sisters in infancy; two brothers, David and Sam; her husband, John; and her eldest son, Gottfried. Olga is survived by her daughter, Zelma; her son, Bernard (Evelyn); her daughter-in-law, Margaret; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Friday, June 24 at 2:00 p.m., Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Whyte Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund.
