Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBARBARA MARY MALKIEWICZ (nee BIBIK) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Mary Malkiewicz on Sunday June 19, 2016, at the age of 73 years. In her final days, she was surrounded by her family and friends, with whom she shared her sense of humour and laughter. Left to celebrate Barbara's life are her husband Kazimierz; children, Tom (Joanna), Kathy (Peter) and Patricia (Ted); five grandchildren, Christopher, Alexandra, Angela, Eric and Matthew, as well as Alesandro, Adrian and Katiana; brothers Jerzy (Mary) and Andrzej (Janie); sister-in-law Chris (Gerry); and many nieces and nephews. Barbara was born in Eastern Poland on October 26, 1942. Her family immigrated to Canada in 1957 and eventually settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1961. Shortly after, she joined the Sokol Polish Folk Ensemble where she met her husband, Kazik. Barbara's passion for song, love of Polish culture and knowing that she wanted to contribute back to the community led her to spend countless hours volunteering in many organizations including: ZHP (Polish Scouting Association), Canadian Polish Congress, Sokol Polish Folk Ensemble, Polish-Canadian Women's Federation and Seven Oaks General Hospital. Her commitment to volunteering was recognized in 2012 when she received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. The greatest joy for Barbara was watching her children and grandchildren growing up and sharing her love of Polish culture and contributing to the community. She would make time for any dance concert, music recital, school play or fundraiser that included any of her children or grandchildren. They were a great source of pride for her and she always took the opportunity to talk about "her babies" whenever she got the chance. Barbara loved people and could strike up a conversation with anyone, anytime, anywhere that usually involved a lot of laughter. Barbara's shining smile and twinkling eyes will be remembered and missed by many. Her caring heart has touched family, friends and many a stranger. For those who wish to join in praying the Rosary, it will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2016 in Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue followed by Mass of Christian Burial which will be Celebrated at 10:00 a.m. with an Oblate Father presiding. Interment will follow in Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Cemetery, 4387 Main Street, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
