SHAWNA IVEY MCMURRAY
Born: Nov 12, 1961
Date of Passing: Jun 18, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHAWNA IVEY MCMURRAY It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Shawna Ivey McMurray on June 18, 2016. Shawna is survived by her loving father Melville (Sherry Bouchard); brothers, Laird (Yvonne) and Keith (Louise); nieces, Megan (Jamie), Kate, Dana and nephew Riley. Shawna was thrilled when she recently became a great-aunt to baby Oliver, son of Megan and Jamie. Shawna was predeceased by her dear mother Audrey and special aunt, Fran Ivey. Shawna was born on November 12, 1961, in Winnipeg, growing up in Fort Garry and spending summers with her family at the Wood/Sandberg cottage at Pelican Lake, Manitoba, where she loved to spend her days in the water, swimming like a fish. Shawna volunteered as a candy striper at the Victoria Hospital during her teen years. Upon becoming an adult, Shawna held a variety of positions, favoring jobs that allowed her to interact with the public, as she so enjoyed meeting and visiting with people. Shawna also had great affection for animals and loved the various pets that were part of her family over the years. Shawna had a close relationship with her large, extended family. She rarely missed any of the McMurray Family gatherings, including the Christmas potluck dinner, St. Patrick's Day green sock party, and Thanksgiving at Matlock, to name a few. One of Shawna's favorite vacations was visiting the McKinneys, Furtneys and Dobbyns, her mother's extended family, in southwestern Manitoba. Shawna usually stayed at the farm of Shirley and Bill McKinney in Waskada where she thrived on the hectic pace of daily farm life. Shawna never hesitated to roll up her sleeves and help: cooking vast quantities of food for the farm hands to eat throughout the day, riding along in the combine or chasing cows that had escaped from the pasture. It was here that Shawna learned to drive - a standard transmission farm truck, no less! Shawna was warm and thoughtful, with an infectious laugh and a twinkle in her eye. She loved to gently tease, coming up from behind to tickle someone in the ribs when they least expected it. Shawna was no pushover, she knew her mind and what she wanted and could be very strong willed and determined. When she set her mind on something, she usually achieved it. A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. The family would like to thank Corona and Steve for welcoming Shawna into their family and for their support over the last six years. Flowers are gratefully declined. Please consider a donation to a charity related to the support of animals. Shawna, your life was far too short, but your memory will live on forever in our hearts. I remember Shawna as a little girl with a laugh like no other...she was very sweet and loved to have fun. Her mom Audrey was one of my mom's best friends and now Shawna can be re-united with them...and welcomed with hugs and kisses from both. Sincere condolences to Mel and family from someone who really loved their association with my family. Rest in peace Shawna. - Posted by: Margaret Glew (nee Newman) (Friend of the family) on: Jun 26, 2016

Because Shawna and I lived close to one anotherin Fort Richmond, often when she and I were invited to share a brunch or supper with Mel and Sherry at Dakota House I was our 'designated driver'. Shawna never failed to call and leave a message confirming our plan and she was always ready and waiting when I pulled into the driveway. We exchanged many an animated discussion during our travels. We had fun~! Shawna was generous and thoughtful to me and I will truly miss her. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Nancy McAvoy Gajdosik (just a friend) on: Jun 25, 2016
